Are builders busy or adverse to pointing work?

Having now given up on obtaining quotes (let alone the work carried out) for the repointing work . I turned my attention to having the roof replaced. Despite requesting around 20 quotes, I've yet to receive one reply. I'm absolutely astonished the no one 'appears' to want any building work. If...

Building survey fails to mention 'Wall Bracing and Pattress Plates'

Many good points made in this thread to reflect upon. A buildings historian I was speaking with was telling me some of these braces were fitted within years of the building being erected or when they went up in height during modification. Often made from wrought iron by the local blacksmith...

Building survey fails to mention 'Wall Bracing and Pattress Plates'

To place them in context, all appear on historic buildings dating to 1800-1840. Many looked to have been fitted around 1900, so well established. But indeed, I'd have thought the same as you, RICs appears to have no stance on the subject.

Building survey fails to mention 'Wall Bracing and Pattress Plates'

This may be the wrong section, or even the wrong forum in which to ask this question. But does anyone have any knowledge if ‘Wall Bracing and Pattress Plates’ should be inspected during a RICs Level 3 Building survey? I assumed the surveyor would at least comment on or acknowledged their...

Are builders busy or adverse to pointing work?

So far, I've been given a guide quote of around £40-65 per m2 including the raking out (the dusty part), plus around another £200 for replacing the blown bricks: 'IF' they were available to do the work. That's around £4-5k per my calculations. I've tried local one man property maintenance guys...

Are builders busy or adverse to pointing work?

I know its not exactly mind stimulating, but I'm unable to obtain quotes for repointing a Victorian detached house (at least two - three walls) with lime mortar. Plus replacing some bricks. If I do receive a reply, it usually no due to workload. Have I asked during a buys period, or is the job...

    Woodworm on a soffit board

The worst is on the bargeboard, but looking around there appear to be signs on other areas of the house. The house was built in 1994, so not new, but not Victorian. Not what we expected, but lucky that we did.

Loft conversion on property where permitted development has been removed.

All I'm looking to do is create a small space with the addition of a couple of roof lights. Its the area within the loft that will be created, the only change to the roof itself would be where the roof lights are installed.

Loft conversion on property where permitted development has been removed.

Just re-read my post and realised I'd left a paragraph out lol. Sorry about that. Hopefully this places it in more context. PD has been removed for any outside extension, conservatory and garden shed. There is no article 4 and the property is not in a conservation area. The loft restriction is...

Loft conversion on property where permitted development has been removed.

I have a bungalow in an area where permitted development has been removed. The relevant restriction states "no extension into the roof shall be constructed in the rear elevation". Any clue as to what "no extension into the roof shall be constructed in the rear elevation" means? If I taken...
