I've just done some soffits for a neighbour, and unfortunately the evidence of the beetle was even worse behind :(
That may just be a rogue plank of course.

The worst is on the bargeboard, but looking around there appear to be signs on other areas of the house. The house was built in 1994, so not new, but not Victorian. Not what we expected, but lucky that we did.

IMHO from experience. If I really liked the house I wouldn't be worrying too much about worm along the roofline. I'd factor in to replace the roofline and give the roof internal timbers a good treatment just in case. Woodworm are everywhere. They take a long time to degrade timber to the point it is unserviceable, and can relatively easily be treated. They are also very fussy and often find a timber riddled with it butting up to another timber they haven't touched I don't know why, but having just restored a house that was full of it, this is what I found. They need moisture, so are less likely to invade centrally heated houses. Fact of life and difficult to avoid 100%.
