    Toilet ballcock valve leak

Hi all! Just a quick one, my toilet cistern has a leak from the water inlet valve into the ballcock (picture attached). Is it the ballcock I would need to replace, the valve or both? Many thanks in advance for your help.

Advice on this one guys please....

Adrian - The research I have conducted states that it isn’t too unusual to find this setup. I am not a professional so I won’t be investigating anything any further. Suffice to say the work I carried out, with the advice heeded from this forum, has resulted in a satisfactory and safe job.

Advice on this one guys please....

Andy - Just to clarify and save the Mrs getting a shock (it’s her side of the bed! ) I can simply place the second earth wire in the bottom earth socket terminal and leave the back box ‘loose’ wire which is too short to fit anyway, without connecting it to the socket? Is that correct?

Advice on this one guys please....

Thanks Andy. The loose earth wire from the back box is too short to fit either of the socket earth terminals so I think I will need to buy a short length of earth wire and strip it to replace the loose earth wire that’s currently already there.

Thank you for the quick response. I appreciate your help. I suspected I couldn’t use the metal switch. How old do you think this wiring is? To have the house upgraded to newer electrical wiring, how much do you think that would cost fitted? Would really like to have more modern electrical...
