Thanks very much @^woody^! Polystyrene insulation sounds like a good idea. Depending how easily the old screed comes up everywhere else, I might put an expansion strip all the way around against the uPVC as you can literally hear it expanding and contracting.
Noted, @^woody^, thank you. Mine seems to have crumbled into nearly sand (the corners are much worse). What would you do before using a self-levelling compound (you can see I'm removing some on the right hand side - it failed and separated)?
As is often the way in DIY, things haven't quite gone to plan.
While removing the old compound at the edges, quite a bit of the original floor has come up up with it (pictures below). The edges break up very easily and the floor sounds hollow for up to around 3" from the edge. Seems to be the...
Thanks - really helpful. Arditex NA looks great, and even one of their pictures looks quite like my floor:
I've taken up more of the old tiles (and more of the old compound) tonight. Even what's left behind comes up relatively easily if you hit it in the right place. Annoyingly the skirting...
70s build. I don't know for sure about the porch but from other work elsewhere (e.g. garage) there seems to be some sort of see-through plastic membrane underneath the top layer.
Hi all,
The Karndean flooring in my south-facing porch started coming up at the joints after about 5/6 years, and it turned out the subfloor had failed such that large chunks were no longer stuck to the (apparently primed, given the yellow colour) concrete underneath. I am debating whether to...
Thank you - very helpful and appreciate the offer!
All seemed to be well since my last post until I noticed an unusually loud humming coming from it the other day and it's not getting up to temperature again (confirmed by Bluetooth thermometer). I'll start with the relay.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts on this one - really appreciated.
It does appear to be an intermittent fault, as a 70 degree wash today seemed to work; I used a Bluetooth thermometer to test it (and also noted steam escaping at the end of the cycle):
On that basis I think @SpecialK is...
Perhaps the easiest fix would be to try and use an adhesive to re-attach the original floor and newer screeding compound - any recommendations for what might be a good product for that, please?!
I think it might need more knowledge and experience than I can give it unfortunately.
Looking at spares, assuming the details are correct, there are two heating elements in this model:
It is not clear what each does. This video talks about the replacement of the former fixing a cold water...
Thank you. Presumably this one for the dryer: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283826857420. No doubt situated somewhere that means the integrated dishwasher needs to be removed to get at it!
Hi all,
My Renlig DW60 (underneath an Electrolux 911D53-0L, which I believe is also known as a F35020VI) has stopped drying - there is no hot air escaping when you open the door at the end of the cycle and the contents are cold and still quite wet.
However, if opened mid-cycle then steam does...
I think it's just concrete from the original (70's) build. It looks like it's been coated with something by the installers for it to have the colour in the first photo, though. I have vague memories of some sort of black coating/adhesive before installation - you can (I think) see remnants of...
Hi all,
The Karndean flooring in my porch is lifting around the corner joints in particular:
This is a south-facing glass porch that needless to say is exposed to extreme temperature differences. I think the floor was installed in 2015 or 2016.
You can see I've lifted the worst-affected...
Thanks to everyone for your helpful replies. It's been over a month since the repair now and the wall is currently looking fairly dry. Quite a difference to last weekend (above).
Thanks Andy; good idea. In the meantime, this photo pre-drainage repair is maybe a useful comparison:
Other than the mortar covering the DPC having dried out a bit, they look pretty similar to my eyes, unfortunately.
