Plastic into cast iron gutter advice

One on the left is plastic and right is cast iron (or alloy?). So it needs a bespoke metal join does it? I won’t be able to find a plastic one?

Plastic into cast iron gutter advice

Afternoon all Had my gutters done not too long ago and this particular point keeps leaking. It’s been fixed a couple of times with sealant but fails again when the seasons change, assume due to temperature change. I’m looking for a more permanent solution, is there a union I can buy...

    Insulating loft / condensation problem

I’ve already done that, there is definitely air coming through there as I can see daylight in some parts but in others it’s completely sealed off. I can’t see a way to create an opening. Assume it’s the way it was built?

    Insulating loft / condensation problem

Hi all End of terrace built in 1890. Since topping up my insulation, I have a significant build up of condensation on the breather membrane in my loft that I’m trying to fix through: - installing lap vents in between every rafter at the lowest point close to the eaves. - installing a...

Insulation of exposed wooden floor FROM BELOW

Ah, I’m sorry to hear that! Very frustrating! Did you use any kind of membrane or foam the gaps? I’m really hoping it will make a difference in this particular room. It’s the coldest room in the house but the only one with exposed wood floorboards, so surely it will help somewhat at least!

Insulation of exposed wooden floor FROM BELOW

it’ll be a rubbish job I know! Swaying towards this option but only concern with the chicken wire is the ‘windwash’ effect. I’ve read that the materials need to be breathable but not too breathable so as to reduce the insulating effects. That’s why I was going to use something like Rhino Ultra...

Insulation of exposed wooden floor FROM BELOW

thanks yep fun weekend ahead for me! My concern with the board insulation is breathability of the timbers given that moisture can’t pass through the boards, what are you thoughts on that? I’ve read the materials need to be breathable , however not too breathable so that the heat is washed away...

Insulation of exposed wooden floor FROM BELOW

Evening all, Firstly, Happy New Year! I’m planning on insulating underneath the floor boards in my living room. 1900s terraced house so adequate crawl space to do from below, plus I don’t want to damage the floor by lifting up. From research I understand best practice is a vapour barrier...

    Horizontal covered vs Vertical uncovered

Morning all I’m looking at replacing an older rad in my lounge. At present, it’s covered by a sofa and which will be difficult to avoid with any large horizontal rad due to the size/layout of the room. Which of these options is going to heat my room better: 1. New 10,800BTU horizontal rad...

Replacing old rads on 10mm pipes with new slightly smaller rads

i think boiler is newer than rads, pic attached. The rads get hot no problem but I have no way to regulate the temperature. They are either scolding or cold. That’s why I was going down the new TRV route but thought I might as well replace the rads while I’m there for more modern ones with...

Replacing old rads on 10mm pipes with new slightly smaller rads

Hi all All of my TRVs are very old looking and don’t seem to work properly, the temp is either hot or cold despite what number the TRV is set to. My original plan was to replace all of the TRVs but my understanding is that for the hassle of changing them all I might as well replace the rads as...
