Glow Worm Energy 30c - DHW icon flashes when no hot water demand

Hi @Chris_W, yeah could be that. I e-mailed Glow Worm and to be fair they replied fairly quickly with the details of how you switch off eco mode (and therefore the preheat feature). Turns out you press the + and - buttons in together for about 5 seconds to enable eco mode - and the same again...

Glow Worm Energy 30c - DHW icon flashes when no hot water demand

Hi, We've recently had a Glow Worm Energy 30c combi installed - just getting our heads around the new controls after changing from a somewhat simpler 30-year-old boiler! From time to time, the "tap" icon in the display (which the documentation describes as "DHW mode - burner on in draw-off...

Which Combi? (yes, that old chestnut...)

Hi, Sorry to ask this question – I know you all must be bored with this one now… We’ll be replacing our Combi shortly, and just looking for some opinions and thoughts and what’s good out there (and any that would be best to avoid). Here’s the story… We currently have an old Halstead...

sime halstead trio combi boiler gas

Yes, we have one too... have the user and installation manuals. I'd be happy to scan them and e-mail them to you, if you still need them - no problem. Gareth

Sime Halstead 30/90 (Trio?) - No DHW unless CH is fired.

Tony, OK thanks - won't go in there again. I'll get an engineer out.... let you know what happens...

TO PAY OR NOT TO PAY....?

Paul, ...for a fixed price? Chris, I agree, I'm not saying anyone should give their time FOC. It's hard for the customer though - to pay for an engineer's time when they don't get to the bottom of the fault (again, a value-for-money thing). Could you put yourself in a similar...

TO PAY OR NOT TO PAY....?

The symptoms sounded like a suspect divertor valve or microswitch (only get DHW when burner already alight for CH) so he arrived, checked this (it was all in working order) so was a bit stumped. The fault is still ongoing. He thought possibly PCB - but that you can't get them any more (old...

Thanks for your views DP - very interesting. It did continue to malfunction during the visit...

TO PAY OR NOT TO PAY....?

Chris, Top advice. I will definitely ask more questions next time (live & learn). I was quoted no call-out charge but £55 per hour for work (and, of course, you don't know in advance how long someone will take - or if a fix can be found). Mind you, I probably won't offer a cup of tea next...

TO PAY OR NOT TO PAY....?

....now that really is the question. I recently called out a heating engineer (£55 per hour plus VAT) who attended to our faulty boiler but couldn't find the fault. The total cost was £130 (which I paid). What do you think? Would you have paid up (after all, the chap did spend a couple...

Sime Halstead 30/90 (Trio?) - No DHW unless CH is fired.

Tony, Thanks for your help - much appreciated - and sorry for the vagueness. I'll try to clarify: 1. Turning on the hot tap with the boiler burner unlit - divertor activates, fan starts, but burner but doesn't light (no ignition spark). 2. If the burner is already alight (for CH) - then...

Sime Halstead 30/90 (Trio?) - No DHW unless CH is fired.

No, not aware of a system flow switch. The only switch relating to system flow I can see is the one on the divertor - and that is OK. Hope it's not the PCB - the engineer that came out called Halstead and apparently you can't get them any more. Do you think the pressure switch could be...

    SIME Boiler

This is true - we also have a Trio 30/90 with some different symptoms at the moment - see here: //www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=43259 One thing we do have is the original documentation / troubleshooting manual. Would be happy to scan & e-mail it to you if you don't have it... (to...

Sime Halstead 30/90 (Trio?) - No DHW unless CH is fired.

The latest: Checked the divertor microswitch with multimeter - definitely OK. On second look, noticed that radiators get quite cold before the boiler fires up - which has made me rethink... Could be an fault with a delay in ignition (for both DHW & CH) - maybe pressure sensor problem...

Sime Halstead 30/90 (Trio?) - No DHW unless CH is fired.

Regarding payment, that's interesting. I enquired with a few heating/plumbing numbers in the area - they all charge around £55 per hour for time - no guarantee of a repair - if they spend the time trying they want paying. (that's why I want to look at it myself now) Regarding the diverter...

old sime halstead bolier - strange behaviour!

Hey, AndyNorth I've just logged this post: //www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=43259 I have the same problem - did you manage to fix yours? I mentioned in the other post that I called out a heating engineer who told me it wasn't the divertor valve - I'm looking for some clues...

Sime Halstead 30/90 (Trio?) - No DHW unless CH is fired.

Thanks for the swift response. Not sure - he certainly prodded about around the divertor (a Giannoni one) and seemed happy it was working - how he could tell I'm not sure. If I pop the microswitch off the top and turn on a hot tap, a pin should push out of the top - is that a valid test...

Sime Halstead 30/90 (Trio?) - No DHW unless CH is fired.

Hi there. So many people on here with problematic Halstead boilers (and, thankfully, experts too). I have a Sime Halstead 30/90 combi boiler (I think also known as a "Trio" in some places). Basically, the boiler won't light for DHW. If the boiler is ALREADY alight for central heating and...
