Hi, After dhw use the overheat thermostat switch activates and I need to reset it when the temperature gauge falls below 60 degrees.is this a job for an engineer or can I fix this myself?

I have tried in vain to get a uniform finish on some interior pine doors but after 3 coats of ronseal wood stain they still look streaky. I/ve sanded down between coats etc. but am lost as to what is going wrong - any sggestions and remedies.
