    Masonry column between openings

Hi Noseall, thanks for showing an interest, Yes that's it, essentially making the masonry in-between taller. I agree that if hypothetically one lintel spanned both windows then the return would provide some stability, but in this instance the lintels both bear on the column in-between the openings.

    Masonry column between openings

Hello all, would very much appreciate your thoughts on a proposal regarding columns formed by adjacent window openings in masonry. House is 1980s 102.5mm Brick / 100mm lightweight block consruction with 60mm cavity The facade in question runs parallel with the floor joists (so no laterial...

Alpha Boilers weather compensation and controls

Good morning, hoping someone could help clarify a few questions regarding the weather compensation features , specifically on the alpha e-tec combis please. I understand that the aim of such devices are to keep the return flow temperature as low as possible to maximise condensation...

New UPVC Window Frames , Defective?

Ah thanks Crank , from watching a couple of installation videos I naively believed no prep work necessary. Glad you guys have the experience to share!

New UPVC Window Frames , Defective?

Just a slither off the ribbing then. Would be a good thing for the manufacturer to improve for future sales. 3 ribbing sit on the cill so that's six 'ramps' to shave off each window. Good thought re extenders. Thanks again all. I'll give one a go tomorrow

New UPVC Window Frames , Defective?

Thanks all for coming back so quickly and for all the really good info. Just to clarify that the gap I am referring to is not the frame protruding out beyond the upper level of the cill ( I can appreciate this is designed for the drainage) but the gap that is formed as a result of these little...

New UPVC Window Frames , Defective?

Hi all, would be very grateful for your thoughts please. I have just acquired some PVC double glazed windows (Deceuininck Heritage 2800 profile) that I am going to install. I was just about to attach the cill when I realised that the ends of the bottom frame extrusion 'ramp-up' a little. (see...

Seals in old boilers and POC analysis

Hmmmm reckon a few of those factors could be at play here. Thanks gas112.

Seals in old boilers and POC analysis

Hi all. Just to advise that the second Engineer is not of the view that the boiler is scrap but has advised that a new case seal is required. Hopefully all sorted next week. Is it normal for two different Engineers to have such different outcomes? Is it necessary for me to have the first...

Seals in old boilers and POC analysis

Thanks all , I hope the trusty beast survives this but will see. No response from the original Engineer, which is frustrating as I'm not after blood - just a logical discussion / reasoning. I have another Engineer coming over tomorrow so shall await the outcome of that. No mention of baffling...

Seals in old boilers and POC analysis

THanks Fireman and gas 112. JUst found the case seal and as you say is available , so if needed then should be okay on that front.

Oh and to answer your question I have checked and definitely registered, no doubts there.

Seals in old boilers and POC analysis

Thanks Fireman, I'm going to give him a call , and get it tested right. Given it's some 45 years old I wouldn't be surprised if the case seal was a little tired, but that seal is accessible, and so if causing a problem something could be done about it I wuld imagine. It was reference to some...

Seals in old boilers and POC analysis

Hi Chris , the Engineer was there to fix it (replacement pilot jet, and electrode). He got the thing going so we thought we were on a winner but then mentioned the POCs. He verbally spoke of CO in the kitchen but then seemed a little unsure when the second time the analyser only showed CO2 (he...

Seals in old boilers and POC analysis

Thanks Fireman, it did feel all v rushed and I was on the spot and seeing two months pay down the toilet so didn't have head on to challenge at the time. seems a consensus then that case should have been on. Just been down, it would appear to be sealed all around, so as all have pointed out a...

Seals in old boilers and POC analysis

Thanks Chris , that's useful to know I do recall seeing a 5 , may have been 0.5% which would tally. I don't want to name and shame anyone really, but corgi registered and by google reviews respected. I think he just tested with the analyser as a final thought before leaving. Yes seemed a bit...

Seals in old boilers and POC analysis

No worries, that was a bit of a nothing question, can be assessed later. With risk of harping the point, you're not surprised to learn of CO2 being detected then? Also are you aware whether there is such a limit for CO2, or does it normally fall to the Engineer's judgement?
