Brick arch in Victorian chimney breast

Hey, This is an update from a previous thread at the start of a project - thought I'd start a new thread as it has become more involved than I anticipated (as usual!). I have cut into plasterboard and hacked off plaster to expose what i think is the builder's opening on my victorian chimney...

    Opening up a chimney breast

Ok I've removed enough plaster to realise there's a potential structural situation. There is a brick arch at the top of what I think must be the original opening, with a 9" single skin brick column either side. Inside this presumably original opening is another single skin (seen here in more...

    Opening up a chimney breast

Thanks all - will post photos after I’ve done the first stage. Any ideas on a suitable vent which will provide some draught proofing too?

    Opening up a chimney breast

Hi all, I know that some of this is discussed already here and elsewhere online but I've got a couple of questions I can't find the answer to. In my 1900 Victorian terraced house I have a plastered chimney breast in the front room (second pic). By tapping on it I can hear that there's a boarded...

Finally got this done, with the double plug technique and 6x100mm screws. Works great. Thanks everyone for the advice!

External door frame separating from masonry

Thanks - it seems the stop moves a bit but the jamb doesn’t appear to. Which part is recommended to put the frame fixings into?

External door frame separating from masonry

Hey, planning to repaint my front door tomorrow and while looking at it I noticed a small gap between the wood frame and the brick on the outside. I want to fill it to avoid water getting in - any advice what to use? It’s a Victorian terrace circa 1900 ish. Thanks!

Mounting heavy bikes onto wall - screws failed, advise appreciated

This is a great explanation. Any recommendations for collarless wall plugs? It'd be hard to tap the rawlplugs I use into the wall because of the collar. Was thinking of these - https://www.screwfix.com/p/plasplugs-solid-wall-fixing-7-x-40mm-50-pack/3947k

Mounting heavy bikes onto wall - screws failed, advise appreciated

The bikes will have to be hung on the hanger vertically from their top wheel and the strip of OSB is to protect the wall so can’t move the fitting sadly!

Mounting heavy bikes onto wall - screws failed, advise appreciated

Really appreciate your advice but I don’t understand what you mean - tap the plug through? And re the countersink do you mean ensure the head of the screw is buried in the wood? And about the 5mm plug, I was gonna fix the new osb slightly lower as I’d inadvertently drilled into very old and...

Mounting heavy bikes onto wall - screws failed, advise appreciated

Thanks for all that opps. I already have the ronseal filler and I have a loada time on my hands this week so I've gone ahead and done that. I'll give it a few days to dry before drilling. With regard to the double plug rather than the frame fixings, is the advantage just cost? Because to me it...

Mounting heavy bikes onto wall - screws failed, advise appreciated

Yep I'm inclined to do this because of the weight of the bikes. And I'll need 3 per strip, for 6 strips, so may as well buy the 25 pack and have a few spares. Also I'm she/her but its no biggie :)

Mounting heavy bikes onto wall - screws failed, advise appreciated

Hey, Relatively new DIYer here and this is my first post, any advice for this problem gratefully received! I'm mounting OSB strips and hooks onto the party wall in the alcove of my Victorian terraced house. The idea is to hang bikes up from their front wheels. The walls are 9 inch oooold...
