Hard wax oil and silicon sealant

Thanks all. I hadn't thought about sealing underside/back edge but that's a good idea. Sink is inset like hob, so I'll seal that with silicon I'd best get on with sealing the back and underside then...

Hard wax oil and silicon sealant

Hi all I'm about to do the corner joints and sink/hob cutouts on my new solid walnut worktops. They'll be hard wax oiled, that seems to be what is best these days. Is it best to wax the jointed surfaces before siliconing them? Will that stop the silicon adhering properly? Similarly for the...

Which new thermostat to fit? Radiators now, UFH soon as well

It's an intercombi - we have to keep it for now, as a repalcement will go where the cooker currently is (one day). I figure the thermostat fitted this year will work with any combi...

Which new thermostat to fit? Radiators now, UFH soon as well

Hi All Apologies if this is answered elsewhere, I couldn't see an answer but I may have missed it I have a crap combi boiler thermostat, I would like to replace it. (It's in the wrong place, hardwired and not very capable) We are having an extension built this year, and will add wet...

    Are internal wall changes notifiable?

My mistake, intended to mention that the wall coming down is partition wall only - but in the kitchen, if that makes any difference Sorry! Tony

    Are internal wall changes notifiable?

Hi all I understand that removing existing internal walls and building new ones must meet building regs, but before going to the trouble I'd just like to check that the work is actually notifiable, rather than just needing to be done in compliance with regs. Work would be done on a DIY...

What fittings join a Triton mixer shower to plastic supply?

Thanks guys I know what you mean about concealed compression fittings, but I don't think it can be avoided, as you can't solder to the shower. Looks like I'll have to choose the fittings on the weekend! Thanks again Tony

What fittings join a Triton mixer shower to plastic supply?

Hi All I am installing a Triton Antares mixer shower for my brother on the weekend. http://www.tritonshowers.co.uk/triton-for-the-homeowner/triton-products/online-special-offers/antares---now-only-%C2%A399-.aspx I don't get to see it until then, but I'd like to know what fittings are...

Garage wiring - pvc conduit & singles

Flameport Thanks for that - I'm worried that if I put 2 T+E in a round conduit, to drop a cable down to a socket outlet at, say, 1m high, that part of the install won't meet regs. Plus I've been reading that T+E is really hard to pull through conduit. And 2* T+E may not go through the adaptor...

Garage wiring - pvc conduit & singles

Hi all I'm about to wire my garage (as part of some notifiable work which will be inspected by building control), so it's all being done properly. I realise that the correct way to wire the garage is with conduit and 6491x wires, so that the cable is protected (ie not using surface mounted...

    Angle grinder nuts

Hi all I have a cheap 9" grinder, don't use it much. The spanner pins bent... Can I buy a new nut & spanner of a decent brand for a reasonable price? Otherwise, I'm going to need a new grinder! Seems excessive! Anyone know a seller? Thanks Tony

    Pouring a concrete garage floor

Scary stuff, this lorry load of readymix! All that worries me is getting it wrong. But I've never tried to get a really nice finish on concrete before, never needed to. Will give this some more thought! Cheers Tony

    Pouring a concrete garage floor

Thanks Noseall I thought, for the extra few quid, a mix that was more self-levelling might be an advantage. Laying the foundations for the walls reminded me how much work concrete laying could be. I've never used a power float... Are they easy to use or a liability? Thanks again Tony

    Pouring a concrete garage floor

Hi All I have erected a 2nd hand concrete garage. Because the site slopes, and I didn't want to get into above ground shuttering, I built a 9" thick wall and put the garage on top of this. I'm now ready to add the floor. I will put down MOT subbase and compact, then add DPM. The floor will...

SWA or twin and earth overhead cable?

Thanks gents Sounds like the way to go is SWA outdoor and in the garage, and twin and earth in the house, jointed using the adaptable box. I hadn't really considered how to get the tails out of the SWA and into the consumer unit, but that will solve the problem! Cheers Tony

SWA or twin and earth overhead cable?

Thanks for the reply. On the weight issue, I think T+E and plastic conduit will weigh less than SWA. I'm working on the principle that the span is so short the weight won't be a problem. Neither CU will be metalclad. As to exactly how to terminate SWA, I was going to work that out/take...

SWA or twin and earth overhead cable?

Afternoon All I'm doing quite a lot of notifiable wiring at home, and have LABC involved already. There's something I'm unsure of tho and I wonder if anyone can help (knowledge is good before I talk to them again...). I am going to run an overhead cable to supply power to the garage. It's...
