    Over the rainbow

I feel that we're straying from the serious issue of gold finding, gentlemen. With the government's continual asset stripping of UK plc I'm hedging my pension hopes on that pot of gold... Incidentally, about this time last year I saw a double rainbow. Do you think this is like a 'roll over'...

Jonny's right, don't call these things. I used to work in telecoms - as long as a call costs less than £1.50 per minute and the total call cost doesn't exceed £25, the call isn't subject to Ofcom regulation. (might be a year out of date now).

    Over the rainbow

Yeah, I was out in the garden finishing off nailing my fingers together and as soon as I came in my friends said they were leaving for the cinema in 1 minute. As i was covered in mud and stinking I had to let them go on without me. Bah. What's your excuse?

Cool, I'm running for the train station as I type... Actually I saw one once while on a train, although it looked a bit small. I think it might've been a fake.

    Over the rainbow

Another post about spotting oxbow lakes reminded me of a conversation last week... Everybody knows that there's gold at the end of the rainbow but what's at the other end? More gold, something nasty? What happens if two people head off for different ends - who gets the gold? Best to be...

Yes, prize goes to Crafty (by name, by nature) for spotting the deliberate mistake! You're quite right, you couldn't be swept into an oxbow lake (unless you happened to be there at the moment of the final sedimenation or carried over a levee into an alluvial flood plain during a high river)...

Thanks for the connector tip. Doesn't wicking normally refer to things that DO transfer water.

I was a bit hungry a few days and had a strangely healthy urge to eat some fruit, so I went around the corner to the local shop. Outside the door they had a fruit rack. It all looked pretty cheap so I thought I might as well stock up and take some home. We tend to eat apples and bananas so I...

    Home Made Stairs and regulations

Anybody had any experience with building a staircase from scratch? I've got an existing stairwell -all trimmed out etc. but it's a tricky space in an old house with nothing straight and a 5 step double winder (ie: U shape). It's also small -140cm at narrowest part (the winding) with a well...

    aquapanel fitting

Think that it's smooth side out - just going to take a look... ... yep, that's how I've done it! on my sheets the smooth side is a darkish grey, the rougher side lighter and has the visible matting. is Let me know if I got it wrong! How big are your gaps? I was just going to leave mine (few...

    Beam Calulations

I wanted to get a structual engineer out to verify the change of load on some old beams - they quoted £150 minimum. Which isn't cheap but seemed fair until it became apparent that they didn't intend to come on site and see the existing beams or anything - they seemed satisfied with just a phoned...

    Attic Firewall - old house

Actually, after looking around, I see that there's a recently breeze blocked wall at another end of the attic - I guess the walls are strong enough. What's the best way of preping the wall tops to take the block fire wall?

    Building a Porch - facing a wall

Thanks. Is the cavity best left as a cavity or is there some insulation type (insulation isn't actually important here) material which will provide a better damp proof? Also, any tips for joining the porch to the house?
