Drayton receiver / valve problems - central heating

Hi all I understand many folks have had problems with the dreaded drayton receivers not relaying to the valve actuators. I'm one of them! My Digistat sends the signal to the receiver and the receiver light comes on, but the boiler does not. Sometimes it does make that click sound in the valve...

Low pressure from kitchen tap, but other mains taps are fine

Sorted. I unscrewed the cold tap and then tightened the nut again. I don't think the valve was opening properly when I tuned the tap. Cheers for the feedback though. :)

Low pressure from kitchen tap, but other mains taps are fine

Yes I think a build up, although I'm surprised its enough to virtually stop a high pressure tap. Being a novice I'm not exactly sure how to go about it. I think there might be an isolating valve under the sink somewhere. Any suggestions? Cheers :)

Low pressure from kitchen tap, but other mains taps are fine

Hi good people A few weeks ago, the pressure on my kitchen (mains fed) tap started reducing. Now it must be less than a quarter of what it should be. However, the downstairs wc tap is fine with good pressure, and there seem to be no issues with the loft tank filling up or the washing machine...

    Removing old mirror light

OK thanks. I suspected someone might say that, even though it seems to be common practice!

    Removing old mirror light

Hi all I wish to remove an old basin from the corner of the bedroom. I understand in the old days it was quite common to have a basin in your bedroom. As if the basin, with its lead waste pipe and water pipes wasn't enough, I also need to remove the old light above the mirror and the light...

Replacing outside PIR light with standard light (no pir)

Thanks again. Just out of interest what kind of light WOULD use the permanent live then. Presumably a proper PIR light I guess.

Replacing outside PIR light with standard light (no pir)

All sorted! Thanks for the advice chaps - wouldn't have wanted to go ahead without it. I guess the original electrician should have taped the switch live - would have made things much clearer. Anyway many thanks its much appreciated. Alex. :)

Replacing outside PIR light with standard light (no pir)

Thanks Albert. Yes there was a sensor light as I said in the original post! But the fact is there is only room for 3 connections on the new light - earth, neutral & live. In terms of the connector block I would have assumed the brown wire from the 3 core & earth was live, black netral and...

Replacing outside PIR light with standard light (no pir)

Thanks for the quick reply Tickly. Just to clarify, you would advise I section off the brown wire - this is the one apparently not being used. I'm not a sparky, but would a sparky really use the black wire for live and leave the brown unused altogether? Why would a sparky do such confusing thing?!

Replacing outside PIR light with standard light (no pir)

Hi everyone Can someone pleeeeaaase help! I am trying to replace an outside wall light, which was broken yesterday buy a swing door. Don't ask! Clearly this would normally be relatively simple. However, the original light was in a fact a PIR LIGHT that was being used a normal light ie it didn't...

    Leaking miniature valve

That is a good question - I think that it only leaks when the spindle is open. I know it doesn't make sense does it? IF that is the case, should this work?

    Leaking miniature valve

In other words I'm going to have to replace the beggar. Hang on - as a temporary measure can I not turn both the valves off (horizontal thread) on the 2 pipes (running up the wall) supplying his particular rad? Being summer (haha) I can do without that rad for a few months. Will the rest of the...

    Leaking miniature valve

According to Collins complete plumbing that is called a miniature valve! Anyway whatever it is, this particular one is just 2 years old and I'm not impressed. :x And yes both parts of the pipe are captured - well they would be wouldn't they! I've tried duck tape - it was useless...

    Leaking miniature valve

Yes its its the same as the one in the picture - a miniature valve. The leak is coming from the spindle/thread and shows no sign of abating. Is replacing the thing my only option? I don't profess to be particularly proficient at plumbing. How easy will this be, bearing in mind copper pipe isnt...

    Leaking miniature valve

Hi Thanks for the quick reply. I am referring to the 'latter' - the valve that allows you to replace a rad easily. The leak is coming out of the thread - the bit you turn with a screwdriver, so I don't see how 'nipping' the nut will help?

    Leaking miniature valve

I've just discovered that 1 of the miniature valves on the pipe leading to the kitchen rad is leaking - from the thread. What can be done as a temporary remedy? Anyone? :?

    Replacing a basin

Hi Nige What you said sounds great - and quite technical! My plumbing skills are fairly basic, so I'd just like to clarify a couple of points. Are you saying I should cut out the section between the the basin waste outlet to below the vent pipe thus leaving a vertical section of lead pipe...
