    Replacing floor in 1930's house

It's a good point and a weird feature of the house . The rest is concrete already as it was built later on. The living room used to be a shop which we believe belonged to the neighbouring attached house. Then at some point lost in the history books my parents house was built around it.

    Replacing floor in 1930's house

Hi All I'm just after some thoughts and opinions. Last weekend we lifted the laminate floor at my parents house in the living room. We did this as the floor was giving quite badly. What we found was wood worm had turned the marine ply floor to dust. I put my foot through it without effort...

12v MR11 Low Voltage lighting tripping RCCB

Just to take the thread hijack back for a second... I found an earth pushed up against a live wire, seemed a bit squashed but not making contact. Replaced earth sleeve, rerouted wires. All good  Thanks for the input :D Jas

12v MR11 Low Voltage lighting tripping RCCB

Hi This is what I ordered... http://www.litecraft.co.uk/2-pack-of-over-cupboard-arm-light-satin-chrome ... they were actually Wickes branded when they arrived. They come with one 'transformer' but as I'm over two separate cupboards I ordered a second transformer matching the one supplied. Both...

12v MR11 Low Voltage lighting tripping RCCB

Hi. I recently purchased a couple of 12volt MR11 light fittings with electronic transformers (Live & Neutral input, no earth). I have connected them but every time I switch them on it results in half the Consumer Unit going off after tripping one of the 63A RCCBs. The individual 6A lighting...

    Outdoor cable cover thing...

Thanks for the replies. Can't seem to find anything like the picture Crystalclear showed available in the UK. The normal galvanised cable capping is an option, I even have some already, I just don't think it looks as good. Cheers.

    Outdoor cable cover thing...

Hi All Anyone know where I can get something similar to the picture? It's on the BT Line that goes into a lot of new builds. I need something similar to protect some low voltage garden light cables that come out of my garage and into the ground. Something I could screw into the wall over them...

    Rail tracks on sleepers

Cheers for the link. I did see that a few days ago but it's a bit of a trek as it's collection only, 3 Hours from Leicester where I am. I'll just keep checking eBay in case anything more local comes up. Thanks.

    Rail tracks on sleepers

Hi Does anyone know where I can get hold of some train track. I need a couple of lengths about 1.2m. It doesn't necessarily have to be full size track maybe something more industrial would do. They will be part of a garden feature, layed across a raised area of the garden which is bordered by...

    New Carport

freddymercurystwin: First of all, excellent name . I think even if do find 10'' or 12" timber at 6m lengths the cost would be astronomical but i'll look into it. noseall: also a good idea, not sure where i'd even get a scaffold bridge but i'll look into that too. cmother1: You might...

    New Carport

Cheers for the pointers chaps. Scaffolding poles might work but considering there only a couple of inches diameter i reckon they will still have lots of give over that distance. As for the wind catching it, i did think about that but it will be tied together pretty secure so i'm sure it will...

    New Carport

Evenin' We plan to make a Carport in the back garden approximately 3m by 6m. It will be just after the gates that separate the drive from the garden. The canopy itself is most likely to be polycarb or corrugated plastic sheets on a timber frame. The back 6m will sit on an existing 2m high...

    New Garage

Thanks for the info. Ah yeah, combustible-ness, that brings the question of what to make the roof out off. The old garage was that see-through corrugated fibreglass sheet (like a glass house in the summer). We were thinking of doing a flat roof and then felting it, is that too much timber...

    New Garage

How do We are in the process of making a double length garage; car at the front, workshop at the back. I've been looking at the previous posts here and looking at this interactive doodah... http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/hhg/houseguide.html The old garage was in two halfs...

    Loft Insulation and Electric cables

How do This winter we plan to further insulate the house by rolling out some new loft insulation over the existing Rockwool? (the nasty gets everywhere itchy stuff). Is it ok to cover over mains cables that are on top of the existing insulation? There is a 6mm shower cable and i think i...
