    Deadly Nightshade

Thanks. I just thought there'd be something different I'd have to do. But I've bought some tree stump & weedkiller as I have a tree to kill so will use it on the nightshade too.

    Deadly Nightshade

How do you successfully remove deadly nightshade? It seems to have taken over our garden and I want to get rid of it. Is it a case of finding the root and digging it up or can I stop it some other way? Cheers.

    removing appliance plug

Cooker's over a certain power are "designed" to be wired into a fixed point due to the fact that you wouldn't want to plug a 10kw (42A+) cooker into your ring circuit.

    Dodgy Video Remote

Have you checked that there isn't anything blocking the IR signal from getting through such as dirt, tape..etc on the video? Also the video may be malfunctioning. Try switching it off at the wall, waiting for about 30 seconds, then switching back on.

    qualifications required?

When you say they don't ask for proof that you are qualified, does it still mean that you do have to be qualified? Would being up to date on the regulations be enough?

A few questions - if anybody gets a chance

The current flowing through both the live and neutral wires should be the same. When the neutral touches the earth the current is diverted down the earth wire away from the RCD's neutral terminal block. The RCD detects this imbalance and it trips.

    Wiring a Cooker point

Cheers. That's what I thought. It actually states one for 240v and one for 230v. I just noticed it. It still has a max load of over 45A anyway. As you say The chances of using the full load is slim but it's better to be safe than sorry.

    Wiring a Cooker point

It's a cooker. It states that it has a Max consumption of 11.5kW.

    Wiring a Cooker point

I'm sure this is interesting to all you qualified, experienced engineers but it seems to have strayed a little off the subject. Would someone please be kind enough answer my question? Thanks. :)

    four cables in one double-socket

Either that or somebody has already tried to extend the ring circuit and just added two more cables to that socket. Either way, it isn't recommended.

    Cable size for kitchen ring?

That was the case with mine but it was old (20 years+). I have replaced it with 2.5mm2 T+E on a 32A breaker.

    Wiring a Cooker point

Well I don't like the rewirable fuses that's why had a consumer unit installed with breakers with an rcd side. To clarify then, I can use my 10mm2 cable with a 32A or 40A breaker?
  18. E

    Wiring a Cooker point

Well It seems strange to me also but the current fuse that is used on the old board that the cooker is connected to is 30A and has never gave any problems. However I think it's a rewirable job so I have a sneaky suspicion that it is actually rewired with higher capacity wire. Is this possible?

    Wiring a Cooker point

I just found the manual to my cooker on the Creda website and it states that the maximum consumption is 10.5 to 11.5kw. I've opted for 10mm2 cable and will initially be protecting it with a 32A breaker as the current fuse is 30A. If I receive any inconvenience I shall upgrade to to a 40A...
