    Identify this boiler please?

Hello all, My Mum in law is looking to buy a flat which has an Ideal boiler dating from 2004 which is when the properties were built. Picture is attached. Can anyone identify the type of boiler for me please? Thanks in advance. It was apparently serviced last in 2021, but from the sticky tape...

Sanity check - new boiler sizing

Just wanted to say thanks, there are some very good points being made here. I've just had the gas valve replaced as it was intermittently buzzing when the main burner was on and was driving me mad. A full service was performed at the same time and it's running sweetly once again. I think I...

Sanity check - new boiler sizing

Hi all, Just wanted to ask the RGI's here - roughly what Kw rating combi boiler would you recommend for a 4 bedroom house with 12 radiators and one bathroom (+one shower room with a cold feed electric shower). House is a 2 storey corner property with a (2003 vintage and well insulated)...

A big thank you to all the guys on this forum !

Gentlemen, I'd like to raise a virtual glass to you who are so helpful to so many people posting here. I've posted a couple of times about my old and ailing central heating system (Y plan - open vented / Potterton Profile Netaheat 50e and about 10 radiators plus DHW cylinder) which has been...

Marine fish tank..to spur or not to spur

That'll be the metal halide pendant fittings necessary to promote coral growth (indeed survival....) Nice blue 10,000K lamps for best effect. Toasty. Used to run a marine tank myself up until a few years ago until an anemone decided that the best place to live was the wier at the rear...

Chopping out a blocked Air seperator ?

Thanks for your time guys - all assistance greatly appreciated... The F+E tank base is 90cm above the pump outlet (pump is pumping upwards towards the V4073), and the highest point of the vent pipe is 31cm above the top of the F+E tank, so approximately 36cm above the water level in the tank...

Chopping out a blocked Air seperator ?

Hi all, I have a golden oldie system - Netaheat Profile 50e boiler situated downstairs, F+E tank/Grundfos pump/V4073 mid position valve up in the loft and set up as a Y plan system. F+E tank level is as it should be. I've had some problems with the boiler overheating and the...

    Taking apart an office chair

Hi there :-) I don't know if this will help you or not, but here goes anyway... I bought a S/H Kinnarps draughtsmans chair for a very good price, lovely piece of kit but unfortunately way too tall to go under my desk. Eventually I found another Kinnarps chair with a broken mech. but a...

Please help identify this PCB (from ravenheat boiler)

You're kidding Agile surely ? That looks like it's destined for the big boiler in the sky to me. With the pcb carbonised like that I'd be worried about tracking across between connections. Sure the blown pcb traces could be linked out but I'd be concerned it was a future fire...

    Amazing disappearing/reappearing air in radiators

Yes - that was it really, just careful inspection of the joints. I'm sure I've read here that it's best not to bleed with the pump running by the way. One other thing to check is that you have sufficient water in the header tank. If for some reason the level is too low it may be sucking in...

    Amazing disappearing/reappearing air in radiators

Hi, Can't speak for internal sealant as I'm no heating engineer (electronics is my forte) - the peeps on this forum are very good though and I've no doubt that one of them will advise. What I should have made clearer is that the leak, assuming that this is the problem, isn't necessarily at...

    Amazing disappearing/reappearing air in radiators

Maybe you have a leaky joint on the inlet side of the pump ? As there's a degree of suction here you probably wont see any leakage of water. I had this problem on my system - there was a leaky joint on one of the Aerjec ports. HTH Robin

Baxi Solo 3 PF50 boiler - Chattering relay fault

@Underwurlde... I reckon it's precisely because the pcb's are made down to a price that these problems exist. My background is in electronics too, though I have just a humble ONC. I guess in the great "Engineering is being devalued" debate I'd rank as a technician though we do have...

TV and phone extensions: Can I use CT100 and CAT5e?

There's not much difference in cost now between 100Mb and Gigabit switches and adaptors unless you go after managed switches (Cisco kit for example) which would be used in big corporate installations.... it's just futureproofing. That's what I always tell the Missus

TV and phone extensions: Can I use CT100 and CAT5e?

I'm using CAT5 round the house for Gigabit connections with a central network switch via a patch panel without any problems. The same couldn't be said of my previous setup using WiFi !! IIRC, Cat 6 cable has an overall screen and uses all of the cores in the cable. Better for very long runs...

TV and phone extensions: Can I use CT100 and CAT5e?

Yep - spot on :) CT100 coax cable is lower loss than standard coax cable for a given length and frequency. It's also double screened so as Roo correctly sates it's less susceptible to interference sources. Just done exactly this with my new tv aerial for Freeview and it's working nicely...

    hips

Good luck if anyone wants to come and see what rating they think my fridge is - it took me over an hour to get the b****y thing out last time when I needed to. There's no rating sticker visible from the front either. <cycnicism> Isn't all this more to do with the Govt getting inspectors into...
