Rubbish!! Argon filled units can be put in any door/window.

uPVC double glazed windows - condensation problem

This isn't a major concern really. It's caused because the aluminium spacer bar is such a good conductor/poor insulator. When it's cooler outside the temperature is transferred to the internal pane (known as edge effect). You will always get a small amount of condensation like this as any...

    Double Glazing - Condensation outside

This is a good thing! It basically means that your windows are insulating well and not letting the external pane of glass warm up. As the external pane of glass is cold, when there is moisture/humidity in the air it could condensate on the cold surface. If you had poor insulating glass units...

    Foil or Solid Windows?

The Logik 70 windows are manufactured by Eurocell in the UK, the reason that the Kommerling product is more expensive is two-fold. The fabricator pays more for his profile as it has to be imported from Germany and he has to pass his costs on and secondly, the profile is white in colour and...

    Double glazing guarantee

100% agree with above.....NEVER EVER DEAL WITH THE NATIONALS.....EVER!!!! Reputable local company with good references who use a good quality PVCu profile with good quality hardware. Everest/Anglian use their own profile which to say it's not the best is putting it mildly, their fitters...

    Installed my low-e backwards

It makes no difference whatsoever which side the low e coating is on the U value of the unit will be the same. Aesthetically, there may be a slight difference but i wouldn't worry if i was you, chances are you will damage/mark the beads in the process of turning it round and that would bother...

    UPVC or timber?

What a load of rubbish!!! and i suppose rotten, draughty, warped windows add value do they? Wooden windows have there place in certain applications granted (few and far between with advances in other materials nowadays) but why would you fit a product that costs at least a 1/3 more which you...

Looking for good window supplier and fitter

Energy Efficient Windows.....need to be careful as their is no mention of them on the BFRC website and to be claiming to manufacture A rated windows, could be on thin ice. Looking at the spec I dont doubt that it is pretty good, if not a bit unusual.... However, If they are not registered...

Recommended companies for double glazing windows

I work for one of the largest PVC-U extrusion companies in the UK. I would advise you to steer clear of the so-called major players and stick to a good local fabricator, one who's business is more dependant on a quality product/installation

    glass prices

    Glass correct way around

Exactly, as an insulating unit which prevents heat loss, it's not affected. However you may lose some reflective benefits (these benefits are slightly dubious anyway). At the end of the day the most important thing is to prevent heat loss.

    Glass correct way around

 I think you'll find it is.... The g value is affected but the U value remains the same. The emmisivity of the coating on the glass is what alters the U value of the unit, the orientation of the coated glass makes no difference

    Glass correct way around

If you look closely from an angle you can sometimes see which pane has the coating on it, however, it does not affect the U value of the sealed unit even if it is fitted back to front.

Moisture after instalation of upvc window. Trickle Vent ?

I disagree completely, there is no legislation at all to say that trickle vents 'must' be fitted. If the previous window didn't have them there is no reason why the new one should. There are much better solutions for ventilation than routing bloody great holes through the top of perfectly good...

Differences in glazing for upvc frames

THEORETICAL.... Of course it is, however all building performance data is theoretical. I was just highlighting the 'potential' savings. :D

Differences in glazing for upvc frames

You would save around £2 per square metre of glazing per year. Assuming: 10 windows at an average of 1.2m sq A saving of £24/year Premiums for soft coat glass over Pilks K are negligable in fact soft coat is probably cheaper in most cases. I have also assumed using argon gas (£3-£4...

    Integrated Blinds in Double Glazing

I have them in my bathroom and they are fantastic! I never open them fully (wind them up) as it takes a while because it is operated by a rotary knob. I just tilt them at night. Everyone comments about them when they see them. Got mine from www.sealed-units.com
