    Cleaning central heating system

The heat exchanger has just been replaced on my 11 year old Worcester Bosch boiler as it was kettling really noisily. The Worcester engineer who carried out the repair said that judging by the smell there were too many chemicals in the system water making it very acidic (there was X100...

Kettling and radiators cooler at the bottom

What I forgot to say is that the colour of the sample drained from the radiator draincock looks just like the X800. As the same radiator is also cool at the bottom, is it possible that a lot of the X800 is sat in the bottom of the radiator or will it have dispersed around the system by now?

Kettling and radiators cooler at the bottom

Thanks for your reply. Here's a pic of a sample I drained via the drain cock of the radiator with the leaking lockshield. The colour is the same if I open the bleed vent. //media.diynot.com/50000_49637_89106_61553259_thumb.jpg As you can see it is is a pale yellow colour - a bit...

Kettling and radiators cooler at the bottom

Hello, I'm after some advice please. We have a Worcester 28Si II combi boiler in our airing cupboard that was installed 11 years ago and supplies 10 radiators around the house. Last year I noticed some kettling noises in the boiler that were vibrating the main bedroom radiator and...

    Leaking valley?

Hello, Not long after moving into our house last winter, I noticed some of the plaster was damp at the side of the dormer window in my daughter's bedroom. On inspecting the roof from a ladder, I noticed some of the mortar was missing and the valleys were full of vegetation. See below picture...

    Kitchen lights flash!

Located the problem . . . a faulty Volex light switch! It's obviously a mechanical problem in the internal switch mechanism as if you press the switch in more firmly then the lights come on.

    Kitchen lights flash!

Hello I had a new kitchen fitted 6 months ago. At the same time, the old ceiling light fitting was replaced by a new fitting consisting of four spot lamps. We also had three new striplights fitted under the wall units. Everything had worked without a problem until tonight. Now, when I...

    Is brick pillar load bearing?

Hello. The kitchen and dining room in my 1987-build house are essentially one big room divided by the kitchen wall units/breakfast bar and a brick pillar that supports one end of the wall units referred to. Ideally I would like to remove this brick pillar but would like some advice on...

    Noisy hot tap

Okay, I will double check the tap body and washer to make sure. I did wonder if a bit of the old (disintegrated) washer had got stuck within the pipe or valve seat and was interfering with the flow through the pipe. Thanks Mike

    Noisy hot tap

The hot tap in our bathroom basin worked fine until a few months ago when it started making a loud rattling/vibrating noise when it is opened. The sound stops when the tap is opened to approx. 75% or more of the maximum amount. I've also noticed that it doesn't make this noise when the toilet...
