How can I smooth-over plywood in order to decorate?

We've just taken all the tiles off the bathroom walls in order to just have painted walls instead. However, doing so has relealed that the partition wall with the door from the hallway is actually just plywood. We've managed to get a lot of the tile adhesive off, but what are my options with...

    Is this rising damp?

I recently painted the hallway and it's as if there's a patch around the radiator that hasn't completely dried. I never noticed it before I painted (we moved into the house about six months ago). There's no damp smell or condensation anywhere, but is rising damp the only explanation?!

Newly painted front door badly sticks - why?

I've painted my front door in Dulux gloss black. I think I did everything right - sanded down and rubbed down inbetween each of the three coats. I painted early each morning and didn't close the door for at least 12hrs. But when the door has been shut for a couple of hours its really hard...

Best way to paint skirting and not the carpet?!

I don't fancy pulling-up all the carpet to paint the skirting, but what's the best way to do it without getting paint all over the carpet?

Paint isn't covering the caulk - what's the problem?

I've boxed-in some pipes in our kitchen and put a bead of caulk down the edges where the boxing meets the wall. After two coats of emulsion, however, the caulk still seems to be showing through. What's the problem?! Photo:

Vertical radiator heating-up in an odd way

Hi all I've replaced a radiator with a tall, vertical style radiator: http://ww.heatandplumb.com/acatalog/Reina_Osimo_Black_Flat_Panel_Designer_Radiators.html The flow and return enter at the bottom two inlets and I haven't used a TRV. Both the flow and return pipes get can't-touch hot...

Painted floorboards in bathroom - what should I do?

At the moment, we have some awful vinyl floor in the bathroom. By pulling-up a corner I can see the original floorboards. I'd love to take-up all the vinyl and just paint the floorboards white. But what do I need to do to: a) Stop splinters etc. into bare feet b) Stop water dripping...

Run out of tiles - what can we use for out-of-sight areas?

We're tiling the kitchen floor but haven't enough tiles to tile under the units. We were thinking of buying any old cheap tiles just to match the height of the slate ones we've just put down. But there's still tonnes of cutting etc. Can we just use something else - like screed or something?

Plumbing a W/M, diswasher and sink... how??

I'm about to embark on installing a kitchen myself and, as we've just had a new boiler installed, the plumber has kindly left the hot and cold ready for us under the floorboards which, I guess, we can tee-off to feed the taps, dishwasher and washing machine. However, I'm confused about the...
