Thanks John The two switches do work as proper two way switching - I can switch the light on or off from both switches. But...........I have just looked at the kitchen switch and tested the three wires. When the light is off, the only wire showing that it is live is the brown, live wire...

Probably not to be honest. My wife gets confused enough as it is! I would imagine that she would be constantly switching it on, thinking that because the neon light isn't on, the light won't be!
