Worcester + Honeywell RF room stat troubles

We've just had the engineer scratching his head for the last couple of hours trying to figure out this little conundrum.... 3 months ago we had a Worcester Bosch HE 30 combi installed in the kitchen, along with a wireless Honeywell CM67NG room thermostat in the hallway. All appeared well -...

Overheating Boiler fixed - big thanks

I just wanted to express my thanks to the people who helped out with our boiler problem, in particular oilman and ChrisR. Using their advice and knowledge I was able to explain exactly what was going wrong to the engineer over the phone and he replaced the necessary parts the very next day...

    Burning smell from boiler

hello again chrisR. So all the overheating problems could be caused by this small leak? Inside the box are two wires, the bedding screw of one of them has a rust-like residue around it. Behind the box on the valve itself there is a ring which also has this rusty residue. All the water seems...

    Burning smell from boiler

Thanks for all your help gasman - it seems things are looking up (fingers crossed) The water running from the overflow has slowed right down and is now dripping once every second or so (hopefully this will slow down further, or at least until we organise a someone to fit a new valve). I...

    Burning smell from boiler

Incidently, when turning the hot water tap on/off, there is a small black disc on the diverter valve that moves back and forth. It does respond quickly to the tap going on/off, but takes about a second to move to where it needs to go.

    Burning smell from boiler

Unfortunately I don't have a multimeter to check the resistance across the wires you mention. Do you think the leaking part is not particularly dangerous then? could i safely run the boiler with it in that state? If i can at least use the central heating and not hot-water, then i'd be happy for...

    Burning smell from boiler

Ok i'll try those suggestions now. I've also attached a couple of pics of our boiler that may help. In the documentation it mentions that a sealed system should have the air vent cap removed and discarded, so i'm assuming that's been done before hand as the boiler's probably quite old and has...

    Burning smell from boiler

hi gasman, thanks - doesn't sound good though. first, in answer to your questions: >Plenty of heat to rads? - Yes, we did before turning the system off for safety - i'm afraid to turn it back on now! >How black is the water. Well, i've only drained the system via the radiators and the...

    Burning smell from boiler

We were walking around the house with our noses in the air last night trying to track down the smell of a blown-out match. We found it was coming from the boiler. We have a Worcester 240 RSF Combi with the following dials/switches available: - temperature dial = minimum->max - central...

    Overheating Worcester combi

Ok Chris, I'm pleased to say that the boilers now working! I think the tap cycling you suggested did after all do the trick, so thanks very much indeed - you've saved us from having a cold, cold xmas!

    Overheating Worcester combi

Tried as you suggested, turned the hot water on/off about 5 times (do i have to let it fire up fully before turning off each time?), then turned the tap off and turned the heating on (still with temperature control dial at 'min'). However, the radiators still burn up. The hot water also seems to...

    Overheating Worcester combi

hi ChrisR - Yes the boiler remains on, but i don't have a wall thermostat - only the temperate control dial on the boiler itself. What I've done is turn the central heating to the 'on' position, turned the hot water to 'off' and turned the temperature control right down to 'minimum'. After...

    Overheating Worcester combi

boiler: Worcester 240 combi RSF (about 2/3 years old) All of a sudden our boiler wouldn't fire up for either the heating or hot water. It made the noises indicating that it may light any minute, but the pilot light just never sparked. After a little reading I discovered that it may have...
