    outside alarm system

not entirely true breezer as you could install a curtain pir which only looks the same angle as a beam, various possibilities on this one. irrelevent of mounting at certain heights you will always run the risk with either option of activations due to animals. I know this from installing both...

Filling Out An Electrical Installation Certificate

my understanding is when you carry out a board change you should be fully testing all circuits connected and thus filling out the relevent parts of the cert

    outside alarm system

hi check out gardiner security optex beam sets are damn good, also you will need cheap alarm panel to run it, perhaps another option whatabout an opal system? usually used for switching lights but could be tinkered with to just be used for the pir to give audible alert.

    TSD 402

hi also just another point to consider, if you kill all power you will set off the onboard battery in the bell outside, that wont silence until it goes flat or you reinstate power.

    Insulation resistance

thats exactly what i think, but not having a pop, a lot of questions are raised on this forum regarding testing, regs, install techniques and cable calcs from part p course guys, which makes you think what exactly are they being taught?

    Insulation resistance

desl, this is the point i am trying to make these courses do not give you the experiance or indeed knowledge to carry out this type of work, i know legislation was brought in to try to bring some sort of culpability for work being carried out but by giving people a "part p status" When they...

    what qualifications

hi everyone as a sparks thought i would put my view across. Gas4u is correct it does annoy us when a 3 day course can give you the same level of competency as a city and guilds 2330 2nd year course, theres no way in a million years you could cram in the info you learn at college in 3-5...

    Insulation resistance

so nozspark i know what u r saying about the competency side of things, someone might be well capable of carrying out all dead and live tests, and recording the results because you have been shown how to do it by the bloke at work but if you cant interpret the results you would surely need some...

    Insulation resistance

i agree with spark123 and nozspark, what i dont get is why i was slated for saying you need test and inspect quals on a previous thread, when people were saying they have no quals and still test, as was mentioned how are the results interpreted correctly? and why these "part p courses" let u do...

    Industrial Electrics

hi not personal opions but matter of fact you need to have cand g quals behind you to work on industrial effectively, short courses wont apply as they are about part p which is domestic installs only and doesnt apply to commercial applications. After the three years you could then do am2...

    Industrial Electrics

hi there qualification wise you will need 2330 part 1and 2 which is three years in total 16edition is attached to the course syllabus, but will need to update to 17edition when that comes out. Obviously you could probably find short course somewhere, but the college route is the best way.

    shower > how safe?

as long as you put it on the rcd side with the correct rated breaker you will be fine.

    Extractor Fan above shower cubicle

in those circumstances i would go for the 12v option that is the standard for zone 1 and you would be making it a lot safer by installing the low voltage option and regs wise you would be covered

    shower > how safe?

9.5kw pulls 41.30amps dependent on the method of installation ie clipped along joists, in insulation, in the wall can vary the amount of amps being pulled, so no a 30amp breaker is not big enough, also putting this circuit on an rcd is advisable

    Supplementry Bonding

theres a lot of speculation/rumours/conjecture regarding the 17th edition but as it isn't in force yet we will have to wait and see,
