    Which tool would you recommend?

Look on ebay for basin wrench - you will get both types for the same as one from a DIY shop. My favourite is a Monument Basin Wrench

    Help with toilet waste pipe

Are you sure it's leaking at the pan/waste connection? If it is then it sounds like the spigot isn't the right size for the pan connector (unlikely) or you have a mis alignment. I think more detail or a photo might help. You shouldnt need any other sealant on this joint

New thermostatic shower - only warm with low flow

Someone mentioned it before but is there a service valve anywhere. If there is check the type - if its the type you need a screwdriver to operate it will be restricting the flow significantly. Get a full bore one.

    Size matters?

Unfortunately the pipework goes directly into some boxing so it's not possible to add a second stopcock. Refurbish it is I think!

    Size matters?

Thanks for the replies, its not Alkathene just normal copper with a soft black plastic outer probably to protect it as it runs through concrete, I thought about filing it but its risky as ther eis little room for errors. I'll probably refurbish the old stopcock. John

    Size matters?

I've come across a mains supply pipe which is copper with a black plastic sleeve. The question is that the copper excluding the sleeve has an OD of around 15.6mm - too large for a compression fitting stop cock (the existing stopcock is knackered and I only have an inch or so of the copper to...

Ball park figure for bathroom fitting cost

How long is that piece of string? Depends on amount of tiling, where is WC going etc. Anything from £1500 to £4000 could be justified... Get three quotes and go with the one who spends the most time asking questions/understanding what you want/provides the most thought through quote. Please...

    Black Plastic Pipe c1970

Gasman - do you mean standard 15mm compression fittings? Thanks to all for the advice - much appreciated. When I get to the bottom of this I'll share it with you. I don't think its Polyetheline either its too hard like PVC solvent Weld. Just black and a pain in the Bum!

    Very low hot water pressue

Does the quote include materials? If it does it seems reasonable even if its a straightforward installation.

    Black Plastic Pipe c1970

A bit more research done - sounds like 1/2" Alkathene, asll I need to do now is find a merchant who can supply two adapters to 15mm and i'm away! Any suggestions for the best merchants. Doubt my local City Plumbing will be able to help.

    Black Plastic Pipe c1970

I've come across an unusual domestic pipe work situation in a 1970's house with original plumbing which is constructed of some kind of black plastic. The main stopcock needs replacing. It's fed by black plastic mains pipe. The unusual thing (in my experience) is that the house is then plumbed...

water pressure - get a new tap or install a valve?

Kitchen sinks are often fed by the water main. You can't reduce the pressure by closing a tap or isolating valve - its like saying reducing voltage by putting smaller cable in. you can only reduce the flow this way. Sounds like you have a mains pressure unvented water system which should be...

Here's a good electric shower wiring question

another thought... opinions as to whether the whole route should be surveyed whenever a high power appliance is changed? how do you know the 10mm cable hasn't been connected to a 1.5mm cable somehwere along the route?

Here's a good electric shower wiring question

Good points. Its not averice - the thought of pulling up carpets and floorboards is not one that lights up my eyes, and I'm stacked with work. I did connect and try the shower as i was curious as to the current actually being drawn and even taking summer water temps into consideration i was...
