    Garden Sprinkler

Hi. I do not have an outside tap but I wish to have a sprinkler to water my lawn. I have a utility room close to the garden so I'm thinking I can disconnect the washing machine (looks like a 25mm threaded outlet) and connect a hose and sprinkler to it when needed, then reconnect the washing...

BiFold Door Knob / Handle Problem

Hi. I've just had a bifold door fitted for the downstairs bathroom. The problem is, the installer took the existing door knob and put in on the new bifold door. Due to the projection of the door knob (60mm), the door doesn't fully open and it's a bit of a squeeze to get in the room. These...

    Electric light socket spring thing???

The cost of a replacement box is irrelevant. The time and effort to replace the box is unnecessary when all I need is thus small part. It's just a screw holder for crying out loud!

    Electric light socket spring thing???

I don't want to replace the box, it seems far too excessive. Surely this part is replaceable! It must be! It's just a square bit of plastic, with a hole and spring.

    Electric light socket spring thing???

On my back box socket they are plastic and sprung on each side. They look replaceable. Just don't know what I'm looking for.

    Electric light socket spring thing???

Hi I'm looking for the replacement bits that sit inside a light socket that the switch screws into. There is one on the left and right and they are usually sprung. What are they called and where can I buy one or a few?

Let down by tradesman - need advice

I think the total job inc parts and two call outs was £220. Looks like I'd best find another plumber, but with money being tight, I am loathe to pay out again.

Let down by tradesman - need advice

Hi. Hope someone can help. I've used a plumber found on MyBuilder for about 2 years - he's installed my boiler and done a number of other smaller jobs for me and has been very reliable. Recently, I asked if he could remove a single radiator in the lounge, then come back in a few weeks...

    Dimplex electric fire problem

Yes, the light comes on, I can switch the heat on but the flame effect doesn't work. I'm not an electrician and don't have a multi meter.

Yes, I can spin it with my finger and it looks like it is powered by a motor or electric device.

    Dimplex electric fire problem

Thanks for the reply. It seems as if the fan is a roller which runs across the inside base. It's not turning by itself.

    Dimplex electric fire problem

Hi. I have a Dimplex electric fire, model Elda : http://www.dimplex.co.uk/products/fires_surrounds/inset_fires/elda/index.htm The roller in the base no longer rotates to create the flame effect. Does anyone know how I repair this, or what it would cost to get repaired?

Painting on plastered walls & ceilings

Hi. We've had the lounge plastered and it's now dry ready for painting. I'm looking at putting on Dulux Vinyl Matt Brilliant White on both walls and ceilings. Should I put this paint straight onto the walls and ceilings, or put a coat underneath - if so what? A B&Q budget basic white...

    Vegetable patch

Hi. I have an area in my garden that's approx 1.5m by 4m which I want to turn into a vegetable patch. Am I best to dig the lawn/weeds up in this area (the soil is quite clay-like underneath) or put a membrane on top and raise the patch? How deep does a veggie patch need to be?
