    2.5mm cable for extra sockets

Just wondering, if the circuit is protected by a 20A fuse/breaker would this be indicative that it is indeed a radial. The op stated that there is already 2 cables in the existing socket so may be already extended. Perhaps the electrician was concerned that adding a further socket to the radial...

Which LED bulbs actually last as long as they're supposed to?

The trouble is that the led's in the bulbs we can buy are run at their limit, and beyond in some cases, so will never last as long as they could do. If you really want long lasting led's then get some Philips Dubai lamps but you may have to go to Dubai to get them :-) For a detailed explanation...

    New C/H room thermostat

Thanks for all the advice and info. From my point of view borrowing a neutral just seems a messy way of doing things and as has been suggested powering the stat (with a volt free switch) from the lighting circuit is no more dangerous than the original battery operated stat (again with a volt...

    New C/H room thermostat

Hi all Just bought a new room stat. Old one was battery powered with volt free switch, the new one, Salus SQ610, is mains powered with volt free switch. I have 2 options, either borrow a neutral or power the stat from a seperate supply (lighting circuit). Existing cable is 1mm T & E, ie...

Replacing outside lights - replace connector block?

I notice the box suggested by davelx and probably the one pictured in the OP has a snap-on lid. I always thought that the internals anything containing live terminals had to accessible only with the use of a tool. What do the regs say about this. I'm not a sparky, just interested to know.

    Online Spares

Buyspares.co.uk tends to be a bit cheaper than eSpares but is basically the same company, also part of Connect Distribution and they share the same warehouse.

Does this lamp need to be earthed

Not sure if its double insulated, my daughter sent me the photo asking if I could fix it back together, she's bringing it round tonight so will check. It's to be used in a shop, I just thought it was suspect with the cable though exposed metal. Will report back when I've seen it. (thanks for reply)

Does this lamp need to be earthed

Standard lamp is fed by 2 core flex through metal tube seen in background. The bulbholder is plastic so question is should it be earthed. Item bought from Homesense.

    Vacuum filmed doors

Thanks for replies. Think I'll try evostick + iron on a door that has de-laminated at the bottom - where it won't be seen if the iron shrinks the film. If it does shrink I'll use the sash cramps. Will post back with the results in case it can help others.

    Vacuum filmed doors

Have been asked to glue down the edges of some vacuum filmed doors. Not sure what adhesive to use as the film is very stiff and has curled so will need heating to make it flexible. I suppose something like the adhesive used on iron-on edging would do the job but not sure if it is available. Has...

Damp patch on wall at floor level where chimney breast was removed.

Had a closer look at this today, removed skirting and lifted screed in hearth area. The DPC in the wall is at FFL. The DPM in the floor is a black fibrous mat 2-3mm thick about 20mm below this. The floor screed is 20mm thick, it is black, not concrete, so presumably self levelling compound...

    Dampness in conservatory dwarf walls

i'm referring to the sprig of white flex that shows going into or coming from the plinth - is that the same TV cable that shows inside the room? - Thats the coax aerial cable that shows inside the conservatory without knowing all the circumstances - why build a step into any extension? -...

    Dampness in conservatory dwarf walls

The white cable is a tv aerial cable. There is an rcd spur in the opposite corner of the conservatory to feed the pump but how the cable gets to the manhole is a mystery. Can only assume it goes thro' the rear wall and is buried between the aco and the wall. The armoured cable by the white...

    Dampness in conservatory dwarf walls

No. The Aco gulley is a recent addition, apparently water was pooling outside the french doors when it rained so the owner had it installed last year. The aco drains into a sump pump loacated in the manhole and is pumped thro' the blue flexible hose which runs back along the gulley and up into...

Damp patch on wall at floor level where chimney breast was removed.

Photo at last. The damp patch doesn't show up too well as it's quite dry at the moment - it shows more after rain. I noticed today that the cement/concrete hearth infill has blown. I wonder if I could dig it out and replace it (with appropriate dpm) without disturbing the plaster and skirting...
