    Deicent rate for a plasterer?

    Over here in darkest deepest Worcestershire we normally achieve around £160 per day for spreading with materials on top. Gotta keep all our tractors & combine harvesters serviced !!! :oops:

    Plaster types

    If its plasterboard then use Board-Finish as the name suggests but if you are spreading onto board & existing plaster then use Multi-Finish. If the joists are too deep into the hole then double board with 9.5mm.

    What plaster to use

    I've actually been using a One Coat product from Wickes lately & its easy to mix & ends up quite creamy so inexperienced spreaders can take their time, you can actually put in on holes up to 20mm thick in 1 coat & it will polish up like Multi. Try that.

    Hi Ian, Is the finish on both ceilings the same, i.e smooth, artex, stippled ???? If you are only intending to 'patch' the gap then you are correct in what you are saying by leaving a small gap in between the existing boards & your screw gap lenght. I would add flexible gap sealant...

    Poor Plastering?

    If you paid them to skim completely the ceilings then they should (if they were professional) do it to a smooth finish so that all you needed to do was then mist coat & paint. If you have some pictures of the ceilings then we would get a better idea of the condition.
