    Three sockets off spur

I guess I was trying to save a bit of time re plastering etc as I was tring to get it done quick before the units get put in. I realise I'm not a qualified electrician, just asking for a bit of advice

    Three sockets off spur

Hi Am having some work done in the kitchen and have discovered that three of the sockets are running off one spur from the cellar below. ie one wire is coming up from the cellar socket - hitting a junction box and splitting off to three separate double sockets. Now I understand that this...

    Weatherproof cable connector

Hmmm, not easy to change cable as it must be well bedded into interior wall. It basically just appears from above the front door! Fitting a new junction is a little beyond my capabilities I'm afraid.

    Weatherproof cable connector

Hi there, I'm trying to put a new light above my front door, there is a light there already but the existing cable is too short for the new light. I basically need to buy a weatherproof, slim (to fit behind the new light) connector to attach an extra length of cable to. Any ideas? Or...

    Hole in plaster

OK, I'm pulling off the plaster and it just keeps coming. It seems like it isn't attached to the wall at all, anywhere. I know the best course would be to take off all the plaster in the room and get it redone, but... ...If I just stop and get the hole filled, will cracks just start appearing...

    Hole in plaster

No survey but not unduly worried about it (can't see daylight yet) I guess that the house should stand by itself as it was built later. I'll probably get someone in to plaster but I want to try and do as much beforehand to reduce labour costs.

    Slooooow cistern

Sorry, forgot to thank you all. Fitted new fluidmaster valve with no problems. Then saw flush was slowly dribbling into toilet (made the cistern refill at about 8 minute intervals - shower time was an experience) so changed the flush too. Now perfect - fills in about 20 seconds. Thanks...

    Hole in plaster

Thanks for that, I'm not too bothered about perfectly flat walls as the house is over 100 years old and I quite like the 'authentic' look. The only other problem is that there are some significant holes into the brickwork: and here...

    Hole in plaster

Hi everyone, We've just bought a stone built end terrace and when removing the wallpaper in the bedroom, there was an obvious area of damp. It was probably the guttering (it was wooden and rotten) which has been changed. Anyway, in the area that appeared damp the plaster started to come...

    Slooooow cistern

That definitely sounds like it, there is nothing coming out of the down pipe at all. Now I just need to work out how to get to the connecting nut under the cistern to get it apart and clean/replace it. Would the internal valve be very complicated?

    Slooooow cistern

In fact, on the above diagram - if you see the dotted line coming out of #3 to the top left, this is exactly where the water comes out to fill the cistern. Oh and when I say prick, I mean P r i c k

    Slooooow cistern

I only moved in a month ago and it's always been like this (previous owner did not mention). I cannot control the stop tap at the same time to see if the flow of water is good, but when I attempted to unscrew the closing chamber (3) "live", water started coming out pretty fast. The only...

    Slooooow cistern

Hi there, firstly I would like to say what a valuable resource this place is. My problem is my slow cistern, I have a Siamp float valve: It appears that the water comes through a very small hole and then just kind of dribbles past the lever arm until the float pushes the lever arm...
