Dulux easycare - bubbles from a reaction?

Thanks. It was going over emulsion which had been on for about 3yrs. From memory it was Leyland trade vinyl matt (I think). So, tomorrow do I lightly sand the bubbles, recoat and hope for the best? Or would I be better sanding them and adding a coat of primer undercoat before the next coat?

Dulux easycare - bubbles from a reaction?

Painted walls with Dulux Easycare emulsion today. Got this bubbling effect on some of them, seems to be some sort of reaction with the previous emulsion perhaps? Wondering if they will go as it dries, or if I’ll need to sand them tomorrow and apply something like a primer before the next...

    Painting exterior render… few queries.

Hi Folks, I need to paint the outside render of our house. Was going to use Dulux weathershield masonry paint. I have a couple of questions if that’s ok? 1 - what’s the best way to patch this up (left over from cavity wall insulation) so it matches? 2 - how should I treat the rust...

New unvented cylinder - immersion possibly not working properly?

I can only see one adjustment. There is a small recessed button too, which i believe is to reset the safety cut out, if activated. I read that as the trip is adjustable, plus there is a safety cut out, no? What could cause the trip stat to activate at too low a temperature?

New unvented cylinder - immersion possibly not working properly?

Hi all, i had a new unvented cylinder fitted on Monday and the gas boiler side of things works beautifully, but the immersion heater doesn’t seem to act as I would expect. It heats the tank to around 40C (measured at the thermostat pocket, but also roughly confirmed by seeing where the cylinder...

Bathroom extractor fan - undersized roof vent?

It is the flexible stuff, but there’s less than 1m on each side of the fan.

Bathroom extractor fan - undersized roof vent?

Hi all, I put a 5” inline extractor fan (Manrose MF125T) in our main bathroom, with a 5” vent in the ceiling near shower. However it doesn’t seem to have a great airflow, certainly no better than the 4” fan in the en suite. Yes, there’s room below the door. One reason may be that the the roof...

    Towel rail - shorter brackets?

Good thinking. But they’re chrome-played plastic, not actual metal. I did think about butchering them with angle grinder, but it’s almost certainly gonna go wrong isn’t it

    Towel rail - shorter brackets?

Hi all, spent the last few days remodelling and retiling downstairs WC and the mrs is keen for a towel radiator. However the pipes are a little too close to the wall for it to be straightforward. I’ve put it up for now, just using the two top brackets, but the rad is at an angle. It seems the...

    preventing paint reactions

Thanks. So what is the best thing I can put on to seal the old paint from the new, to try prevent reactions? I’m presuming an oil based sealer or primer, maybe something like BIN? Don’t know if I can be bothered with lining paper.

    preventing paint reactions

Afternoon all, I’ve stripped wallpaper from walls in two bedrooms, ready for painting. The walls were originally painted before wallpaper. The paper came off ok, and i sugar soaped and made sure all the adhesive was off. Filled and sanded down anywhere where paint had come off etc. But when...

Floating chipboard floor in garage partition

I was planning to put down lino/vinyl, so would probably need to put ply or hardboard etc down on top anyway. Would this do?

Floating chipboard floor in garage partition

Hi all. I’m in the process of creating a small room in our detached garage to use as a gym. The garage floor had a DPM anyway, so have levelled the floor using self levelling screed and put a plastic membrane down, followed by 25mm jablite (would have preferred 50mm, but needed the height) and...

    Stud wall and Insulating...

Hi all, I wasn’t sure whether to put this in the joinery or building forum... Am partitioning off an 8’ x 8’ part of a detached garage to use as an occasional use gym area. 3 walls are internal walls, with only one against one of the single skin garage walls. Just to complicate things, the...

    Insulation in garage gym partition

Am partitioning off an 8’ x 8’ part of a detached garage to use as a gym area. 3 walls are internal walls, with only one against one of the single skin garage walls. Just to complicate things, the garage wall has two pillars in it. I’ve built the stud forward of the brickwork slightly. Any...

Creating a small office/gym in detached garage

Hi all, we have a detached double garage and I am wanting to create a small (8ft x 8ft) “box” to use as a home office when working from home, and as a gym. Will be relatively temporary Planning to use 63mm CLS studwork, with 12.5mm plasterboard on each side. Not bothering with skimming etc. 3...
