He is coming back sometime this week to relay a couple of slabs they didn't do properly at the time so I will speak to him again. He is saying that they stuck the pieces back onto the worktop so he cant understand...

Damage to worktop when taking tiles off

Hi, thanks for the replies. I have spoken to the builder again this week and he is still not interested. You are right about the water from the sink and I am being very careful. I will have a look at decorative strips and if there is nothing suitable I will go down the plastic strip route.

Damage to worktop when taking tiles off

Thank you for your replies. I have phoned the builder a couple of times and am struggling to get them to understand. Even though I explained what I needed doing when the builder came round to price up, the quote didn't mention taking the tiles off just taking the window/door out and making good...

Damage to worktop when taking tiles off

Hi, thanks for replying. I spoke to the builders at the time and got a number of excuses. They are insured and I did ask them to sort it out but they insisted that there was nothing they could do and 'I should be grateful that the tiles came off in one piece'! The work surface came from...

Damage to worktop when taking tiles off

Hi, can anyone help? Whilst taking the sink splashback tiles off in the kitchen (wall was being knocked through into an extension) the builders damaged the work surface. Unfortunately some of the damage will be visible once we put the tiles back on, in some places up to 2cm from the edge of...

    Toilet cistern overflowing...

Hi all...I would like some advice, before I call a plumber in, in case this problem is something I can fix myself. There is a slow trickle of water coming out of the water inlet, through slits just underneath the arm, which is causing water to constantly flow into the toilet. After...

    Adjusting a drafty upvc door...

Hi...when shut, the door is not sitting as tight against the frame, where the handle is, as it used to. It is not overly warped and there is hardly any gap to see but there is quite a draught. Also when shut, if you push against the door just above or below the handle the door moves and can be...

    Adjusting a drafty upvc door...

Hi all, hope someone can help. The handle/lock side of my upvc door seems to have warped a bit in the middle. The top and bottom of the door is still pretty airtight but the middle bit (about a third of the entire length) lets in quite a draft. How would I go about adjusting the door to make a...

Cat mess. Have your say on code of practice

MrA has posted this on a number of sites and still hasn't realised that this act is to provide for the welfare of the animal rather than the control of it

    How Noisy??

Hi...thank you both for replying. After searching the web and looking at the links on here I have discounted a flueless gas fire and was thinking of a balanced flue fire but have decided to go for an electric one. The only problem is that I know that some of them can look really tacky with the...

    How Noisy??

I would like some form of fire in my living room and can either have a flueless gas (there is a gas pipe under the floorboards already) or an electric fire. I am looking towards electric but I would like to know how noisy is the fan as I have been told that some can be quite loud and as it is...

    Am I being ripped off?

Hi all, thanks for replying... After getting another builder out to have a look he said that it is not the roof at all!! Over the last 4 months I have had my kitchen and bathroom replaced, including the old original leaking taps. This has changed the pressure in the pipes and the water tank is...

    Am I being ripped off?

Hi...only had gutters done a couple of days ago and it has only just started raining so it will be interesting to see if the leak still happens. Yes my neighbour has the same tiles so replacing mine would be out of the question, but I will ask him about his roof when I see him as thats a good...

    Am I being ripped off?

Thanks for replies.... House built in mid 80s, and the builder did say what the overlap was but I was too worried to take it in. I have never had a problem before with leaks,Deluks, but I am assuming that the felt must have only just worn, I looked in the loft after they had gone and there are...

    Am I being ripped off?

Hi hope someone can help. Live in a semi with a pitched, concrete tiled roof. Started getting water through so called a builder. Was told that there wasn't enough overhang between each row of tiles which was letting water in. Because there are a couple of holes in the felt underneath (about...
