    Ceiling lights + loft insulation

also keep the insulation away from the transformers as they too build up heat. with no air circulating around them they can pack in well before their time.

    Re Wiring House

Youre right in that supplying advise on a project that is out of someones depth, especialy where electricity is concerned might be considered irresponsible. I for one, would be reluctant to supply advice to a DIYr unless it was something simple such as adding a socket to a ring. Yes there is a...

    strimmer, (Oleo-Mac 725s) wont start

Most problems with lawnmowers occur at the start of the spring season. They usually dont start or are very rough. Its ecause they have been lying in a shed all winter. Best way to avoid this is to empty the petrol and run off what is left in the carb before you store for the winter. Take out the...

    Decking questions

Planning is not usualy needed. However you dont want to cause problems with neighbours. Example- By this I mean, at one time you might not have been able to overlook their garden because of your 5 foot fence. But if decking is only a foot high, its easier to see into their garden. Usually...

    Raise the ceiling joists

I dont think it would make any difference to compress the insulation. If it is only slight. After all the boards on top are also adding to the insulation.

Not much more to add. But perhaps a DPM (Damp Proof Membrane) as opposed to a DPC. It will be cheaper.

    why did i diy floor

laminates can be a real pain. Not only the cheaper ones but expensive ones too. You always have to make sure the the snap together tongue and groove are clear of dust debris etc. If your floor is very uneven this can also cause a problem when tryin to fix them together. ask youself if it is only...

    Wood floor help please

if this is your first wood floor, dont be attempted to hoover dust from it as i did. The hoover scratches it quite badly. Use a soft brush. Oh yes , i hid speaker wires between the gap and wall under the beading. I also run beading along the french doors. keeping the beading to the same colour...

Decking and deck stairs, advice please

Thats a lovely job Thermo. Just finished doin my own decked area. i too layed the decking on slabs that were already there. I used legs as well. I did wrap them them in DPC. But i dont think this would have mattered with such a small area being on the ground as the wood is pressure treated...

    Re Wiring House

The most helpful way, would be to give him some curteous advice. We can all see that the gent is out of his depth. But he was lookin for advice. Rather than say what he did, he should have offered the advice of PENSDOWN. That was to contact the supply company. Simple and curteous.

    Alpha CB24x Problem

Do you meen the DHW flowswitch? if you do, is the "shaft" you mention inside the DHW flowvalve? Would i also have to take it apart and clean and replace diaphram? Incidently, i do have a small leak there. It is coming out of a hole on the flowvalve. The hole is located directly below flowswitch...

    Alpha CB24x Problem

my alpha has a manual 24 hr clock fitted to it. When the clock is in the "off" position the central heating still runs. This has just started happening. The central heating starts and stops every few seconds. Even with the CH thermostat in a low position the radiators get super hot. I think this...
