    damp

What probably has happened is that when you have built on top of the existing wall, in the process of laying bricks and blocks some cement does fall down into the cavity, usually it goes to the bottom, but in this case it will be sitting on the cavity tray. My bet is that the weep holes have...

    gettin my loft converted soon

Actually they are supporting your roof pulins, pull them away without correct support and your roof will sag, you need them supporting with some structual stud walling or purlin jacks built off an internal wall or off a series of floor girders that will support your new floor. I'm not been a...

    Damaged concretre gate-post

Have used washing up liquid, not the done thing mind you but it does the job. If you want a really strong job, get some 15mm dowl bars from a engineering firm, drill a deep holes in the stub and resin them in, also you could build theaded bar into the shutter, this would give you some where...

    Which trade costs the most?

I don't think I need you informing me of what is valid or not. If you are going to give some input, try and be more informative instead of trying to become the man about town. To using forums..tell me what version of bulletin board this is?

Concrete path to high against DPC - what is the solution?

The proper way would be to dig it up and relay it 150mm below damp. You will find waste pipes in older houses do look a little worse for wear after a few years, I would not advise in trying to put them underground, just make sure they are clipped back neat and tidy

    damp

OK a few questions: 1/ Why did you use a cavity tray to top off when you built your garage? 2/ Where are the weep holes for the tray and are they still there? 3/ If they are still there, which side of the wall are they venting to? It does sound like you have a ingress of water...

    Damaged concretre gate-post

Perfectly acceptable, just remember to to make a strong shutter as concrete has a habit of springing shuttering. Also when you fill it, give a few taps all around the shuttering, this will bring the water out of the concrete and give it a good finish, similar to what is achieved when a vibrating...

    Drilling through engineered brick

Make sure you check which type of SDS drill you have, you can get SDS or SDS Plus. Also don't get a cheap bit, I have seen cheap bits melt trying to get through concrete....and last but not least, don't do what most 'rag heads' do and drill from the inside, you will only blow off the face of the...

    brick wall

I would use 5" 7N dense, that way you would not have to use pillers as long as its tied in at both ends. If not tied in use a double row of 4" 3.5 N dense. Hope that helps..:)

hmm...extreme hatred against DIY's...I think you are going a little to far with your flame or flaming hatred against people who without question knows more than YOU about the building trade! As you other little snide remarks about trades for a bathroom, actually for your information we...

How do I repair cement rendering?

I think you will have to look the the areas that are really bad and chop them back just enough to get a key to be able to render them again with a fine washed render sand, not forgetting to seal the wall first. Then add a little render sand to a good external paint to blend it all in.

    concrete mix ratio

Well you could use ready mix, only one thing...they like to dump it in a pile and if you have not calculated in properly which even with my experience I end up having a couple of barrows over or under. Then you could use a barrow mix service, they mix it at the door for you. A little more...

    Which trade costs the most?

Ah but it is Handyman, you see I employ a roofer to do a roofer's job because I depend on his skill as a fully trained roofer, I don't 'presume' because he installs tiling battens he can do a joiners job and install a window. You are still in the frame of mind that if a guy is in the building...
