Grout on tiles. (which shouldn't be there)

So, decided to make one last push to finish the bathroom which has already taken me literally a month of sundays. I can't bear tiling and so decided to get a "professional" in. The mosaics in the shower he's done ok, but the floor is a different matter. He has managed to leave a thin (in some...

    Wet Room Floor

Just done/doing a walk in shower. I used a McAlpine shower drain from Plumbase which is slightly cheaper than the sexy Harmer one (see http://www.alumasc-exteriors.co.uk/engineered/default.asp?referrer=Intermediate) but, IMHO does the same job just as well. I haven't tiled it yet so hasn't...

    Showering Shennanigans

Rented properites HAVE to have a gas safety inspection and certificate every year, the furniture HAS to be non-flammable, but the wiring/electrical appliances only SHOULD be regularly inspected and kept in good repair. So, landlords aren't allowed to kill tenants by gas poisoning or furniture...

    Earthing Socket

Brother in law is extending a ring to get more sockets in garage/conservatory. The existing ring is one of those which has no earth wire but instead a (round) metal conduit that is earthed. The socket he was going to extend from looks like it has been replaced because it is a plastic one and...

routing cable between a short distance

Alright, now I get it. Sorry, the ODPM obviously left me me off their list of principal organisations and my subscription to 'Spark Monthly' has lapsed. :D Don't laugh at my not knowing, new building regs aren't really given front page coverage, I just wanted to know what you were on about...

    Painting Bricks

A laymans guess, but as long as it doesn't say "for external use ONLY" then I would've thought you'll be fine. @

    Covered mains outlet

Re: design flaws. How come the light on irons only goes off when they've reached full operational (burning) temperature. That's sensible! It'd be stupid to do it the other way around eh! Maybe electric hobs should do the same. @

    Covered mains outlet

No switch on mine either... Put socket for it behind drawers, therefore no chance of it being accidentally switched, but easily accessible. @

    Bumpy Lawn

Thankyou. So, what you're saying is either I spend a good part of the summer ripping it all up and starting again or making do with a bumpy lawn and a beer or two to take my mind off it? oohh, hard one this, give me a minute......@

Bath Aid (Like Live Aid but less sex, drugs and rock'n'roll)

thanks for all your help. ChrisR you are right; I had to use copper pipe in order to get some rigidity. Replaced olives (and new pipes) with copper ones and a touch of jointing compound and they are all fine now (apart from the non-compression thread-into-fitting one, which are still proving...

    Mason mitreing (??) worktops

Fitter. Point taken, I did get a leeetle bit tetchy, eh! Always dangerous to have a couple of pints at lunchtime! Sorry, I didn't mean to imply I could achieve the same result as you.....well, actually, at the time, I did, but I was just a little hurt! No offence meant. I would be a little...

    Mason mitreing (??) worktops

Sorry, my mistake, i thought this was a Do-It-Yourself, not a Get-Someone-Else-To-Do-It forum. Why discourage people who have enough sense to ask how to do something before they try, and therefore maybe have enouh sense to do a good job? I'd never cut a worktop before, but, through...

    Mason mitreing (??) worktops

i hadn't ever used a router before so bought a cheapo 1020W one from B&Q (£30ish) (Axminster do similar if brand is problem!) and have since used it with great success to install 3 separate worktops (2 laminate, 1 solid wood). All with mitre joins (one of which was 950mm long) all without the...
