Gasbanni,you were right! the leak was at a coupling between my garden wall and street.When the bloke from water company came out he actualy stopped the noise by poking a rod through the ground to the pipe(he didnt stop it on purpose!) So the coupling has been replaced free of charge and problem...

ok,tried all taps,shower,toilet and cant find a culprit.the noise is constant and the only thing i am pretty certain of is that there is not a leak in the house.

i have a wooden fascia but was thinking of replacing it with upvc. Could someone tell me how this is fitted,ie,does the upvc fit over the old one or do you remove the wooden one and fit upvc to brackets or the like?

ok,i seem to have cured the problem,i hope! read somewhere on this site about trapped air around the pump,so i removed the centre screw and replaced it to remove any air and turned off the upstairs rads leaving the downstairs rads on and this cured the noisy pump and cold rads downstairs...

ok-fitted new pump,same model as previuos, and now the upstairs radiators are hot but the down stairs ones are cold and the new pump seems noisier than the old although we have heating now,to an extent,so the pump was to blame but why the extra noise and cold rads?
