Hi there,
We have a 1900 Victorian terrace whereby the floorboards are not in good condition (we sanded them when we moved in and they are structurely sound) but a mixture of 1900/1950 and a few chop outs from previous owners etc.
We like the exposed flooring and therefore would either like to...
Hi everyone,
After recently purchasing our property, I've found some patches woodworm holes in the main roof joists. They are mainly at the upper half of two joists and from what I can tell they don't seem to be active.
I've attached the photos below and would appreciate any advice given.
Thanks
I've just taken the 1970's ceiling down in our 1780's cottage... it was quite shabby and the insulation above was old mattresses and sofa cushions!
So we're now wondering how to reinstate the ceiling without disturbing the breathability of the room... if anyone has any thoughts I'm all ears...
Hi
Can anyone give me any idea what would be best to change a door to a window. Its a old concrete house old pit house and the door is approx 3ft the old door was wood.
Do I clover the gap with wood or brick with cavity?
Needed to drill some holes through joists for a lump of 6mm T & E for a new shower. My trusty flat bits struggle through the 200 year old Douglas fir so thought I'd treat myself to some shiny new bits- these puppies...
We have a 40mm solid wood beech worktop fitted in our U-shaped kitchen. Two lengths and a third breakfast bar.
The kitchen and wooden worktops were bought and delivered a year ago. Due to various reasons (including my own slow DIY skills) we have only now got to the point of fitting the...
Hi diyers,
Varnished a sleeper (untreated don't worry) coffee table last night that I have been building and am all of a sudden cautious about placing it in the living room.
I don't want it to stain the carpet, no less so because it is a light carpet and only a rental!!
Should it be alright...
Hi all
I want to replace a load of panelling on my old shed. I've found some shiplap to match what's there but it's softwood and untreated.
What's the best stuff to use to give it a good 10 years of life outside in the wet?
Can I use creosote? Or is there something more suitable?
Olly
Not really done a lot of DIY before but I've been clearing out the shed (outhouse) and am looking to turn it into a bar/reception area. First thing I want to do is build a suspended floor so I can insulate underneath as the existing floor is concrete. Would also be useful for putting...
Just had a new stylish oak front door fitted and the beading for the windows is on the outside. Is this right as it seems a bit odd despite the supplier saying it is ok and that it has been fitted correctly.
Door also has "face" stickers on the outside of the glass.
See pictures below...
