I have an interestig one.

excell is great for working thins out, but i am trying to make a sheet with some one elses part numbers.
the problem is some really do start with 0 (zero) but if i type say 0123 excell removes the zero (since mathematicaly its not needed.

using an o does not look right i.e o123 as opposed to 0123

there must be a little box to tick or untick to stop it removing the 0 any suggestions please?

Ah sorry, you want easier than easy...
Or, enter number with leading zeros as text '0012345 in for example cell A1 (note leading apostrophe and no 'equals' sign)

If math to be carried out on the value (unlikely) then =VALUE(A1) returns 12345 as a number converted from the text 0012345

Ya - good linky!

I was only asked the other day from our accountants department about this, but didn't have chance to have a look - won't need to now :P

Mrs Breezer would also like to say thankyou, as it was for her i was asking

Another way is to use a format.

from top line of excel click

format / cells / special / key in 00001 or 000000001 etc

this will create a format with leading 0's

Nice one pip, especially useful for reading barcodes and Rfid tags into excel
