I am replacing a light switch with a dimmer. The existing switch has one black wire (top) and one red wire (bottom).
The dimmer has three terminals: arrow, L2 and L1 -

I am not sure which terminals to connect the wires to - or whether I have bought the right dimmer. Can anyone help?

Adam

yes it is, and dont forget to earth the switch

(you see the brass terminal on the right of the pic. put a wire between that and the back box . The back box should already have an earth wire there)

Thank you both - very helpful.

Dimmer fitted (including EARTH) and working.

Is it normal for dimmer and fuse box to emit a quiet buzzing? Especially when lights dimmed?

Adam

fuse boxes do sometimes aswell.....if you have breakers.....if they are fuses i would be worrid

it may be they are humming because they do not know the words
