Looking for some wisdom. Just installed a 6" fan to replace a 4" . Transformer has failed 3 times after running for a few times. This is a timer model so have live switched live and neutral at transformer. The 4" ran for years with no bother it was mains voltage. Gone for 12 volt as its closer to shower zone to clear steam build up? Any thoughts welcomed. Checked tranny and no output on secondary coil? Regards Alf

What do you mean by failed?
It was working fine but no longer does?
What are you using to test for voltage?
Have you checked supply voltage at primary?

Thx for reply. Fan no longer works. A friend used a multimeter to check for output at secondary coil - none showing . Voltage of live was 243 ? Checked all connections at isolator and jb for lighting all seem fine.

Have you connected the new fan onto the existing transformer?

What's the power rating of the new fan, and the rating of the transformer?

New fan , new tranny and got supplier to double check suitability of tranny for fan. tranny rated at 35 va.

Finally got to the bottom of failing transformer. The supplied fan was a mains model mislabeled as12 volt. No markings on fan body or box hence a lot of head scratching. They say assumption is the mother of all **** ups. All replaced with 12volt and working now. thanks to the guys that gave the problem some thought and posted cheers, Alf
