Hi,

I'm hoping for a bit of advice. I've knocked a wall down to turn a separate bathroom and toilet into one room. The old toilet and bathroom each had a radiator on the wall that is no longer and currently, the pipes they were on are sticking up in the middle of the floor. What i want to do is to put a single radiator on the wall that used to be in the toilet so in theory I think it should be reasonably straightforward. Can I just take the floorboards up, cut the old pipes under the floor level and put new pipework (plastic probably as I understand it's easier for less experienced people to work with) and just fit the new radiator to the wall? If I can do that, I assume I will have to go through some floor joists so can I drill through them and put the pipes through?

I've added a picture to my album which will hopefully illustrate what I mean a bit better, and advice will be gratefully received.

Many thanks,
Rob View media item 49105 View media item 49105

Yes, sounds like a plan . If you take another photo of the pipework below the floor we can advise further, if required, on connecting to the old pipework.

thanks, will do.

I won't be back at the house until tomorrow morning but will get another pic posted then

cheers,
rob

hi,

thanks for tuning in for today's exciting instalment. i've taken up the floor boards and cut the pipes under floor level while they are parallel to the floor.

in an ideal world, i'd be looking to run the pipe through the two joists (by drilling, or would it be better to cut a gap out of the top of each jioist?) ans fit the radiator to the wall in the picture. could anyone advise me on the best way to achieve this, bearing in mind i am quite new to this but quite good at picking things up.

many thanks,
rob

ps by the way, i may have to incinerate the floorboard i took up from nearest the toilet, it reeked to high heaven of decades of missing the toilet - not nice View media item 49144 View media item 49145

Mount the rad, elbow the pipes in runs to the rad.

Notch the top of the joists for the pipes, not to much, min as poss.

That way you can run the pipes direct to the new rad.
