Hello,

I can't seem to find the answer to my query, so was hoping someone could help. I currently have a 2 gang switch in my kitchen that I would like to replace with a dimmer. I have attached the picture of the current wiring.

The 2 bottom sockets are labelled L1 & L2 (which I'm ok with) but the top is labelled 'C' in which switch 1 wires to switch 2. My new dimmer switch has 3 sockets labelled L, L1 and L2, I'm assuming I transfer the current L1 & L2 to the new switch, but what about the wires that are in 'C'? do I replicate with the new switch in the 'L' socket?

Thanks in advance,

Adam

The new 'L' does indeed correspond to the present 'C' in the same type of switch.

However, the dimmer may require wiring differently.

You must have had instructions with the dimmer.
You will have to make sure.

Can you post a scan or give the model number?

Also, this looks like a two-way circuit.
The dimmer may not be suitable for such or may need a 'slave' at the other switch position.

You can replace one 2-way switch with a dimmer, it will work, but may be annoying to use, in that if the lights are off and are turned on by the remaining switch they'll come on at whatever level the dimmer was set to, so if that's wrong you have to go to the dimmer to twiddle the knobs.
