Can I expect any problems from some masonry paint bought in 1992 from 'Great Mills'?

It has been stored in a cupboard in a garage.

It stirred up well, apart from the stick going through the bottom of the tin can. Have already applied it on a small, unimportant, garden wall.

That is an awful long period of storage for a water based paint, the fact that it mixes well indicates that both binder and pigments are still working in harmony. Yet after that period of time the chances are that mould spores would have formed within it and if as you say the tin itself is degrading it could also contain particles of rust, my advice would be to get rid of it.

OMG!

Please PLEASE chuck the paint away, and go and BUY SOME NEW TINS!!!!

Paint only has a certain amount of shelf life. When a factory makes paint, the resins, pigments etc etc, are blended in a certain way and only have a certain finite time in that particular state, even less when the can is opened and air is introduced.

PS> do NOT pour the paint down a drain, please take the cans to your local recycling facility, it is illegal to chuck paint into watercourses or drains.

Good luck.
