2002 BMW 318ti rear wiper

Can anyone help?
My rear wiper has stopped in the centre of the screen and will not move. When I turn the ignition switch "on" it makes a buzzing noise but when i switch the wiper on it will not move. Anyone got any idea what might be wrong?

if you say it makes a buzzing noise it could be that the drive mechanism has jammed
