Hi I have a 2006 vw passat 1.9 tdi SE 105ps and I'm wondering does this car have a DPF fitted? And if so does the car have a DPF light that illuminates to warn me that the DPF is getting clogged up so I can drive the car on hard to burn off the soot thus clearing/cleaning the DPF, before the engine management lamp illuminates and a new DPF is required :-(

As far as I know VW don't use DPF on the Passat here. But use it for the US market, so if you have the bottle in the boot for the blue liquid you have a filter fitted. This fluid should burn off the dirt automatically.
But nearly sure they use EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) instead of DPF.

I think it's unlikely that a 2006 car will have one. The additive in the boot is "Ad-Blue" and is nothing to do with DPFs. It is used to reduce oxides of nitrogen in the exhaust gas.
