22mm into a 15mm?

Hi guys

Im planning a bathroom refit this month in my ex council house, I'm going to rip out the bath and replace with a shower, I've just pulled the bath panel off and this is what I'm faced with

Looks to be a 22mm into a 15mm? Is this normal? And is it ok if I turn off the water, cut this 22mm pipe a little lower and then join in a fresh 15mm for the new shower? I'm guessing that's what I'd need to do


Also the waste pipe looks to be an old metal pipe and is a little too high so my plan was to core drill through the wall below this pipe so it's under the floorboards straight out and join into the old cast downpipe (i'm not replacing that yet but will eventually)

The alternative is to build a platform in the bathroom and put the shower on that but I'm not sure if that'll look daft

More work, but a better job in the end.

That 22mm could be 3/4” which is slightly smaller in size. You can get fittings to overcome this. It’s considered normal in some scenarios, yours included where they have likely converted the old gravity fed system into a combi? Waste looks like copper, but yes, no harm in lowering it.
