@Carl Sagan, I very much doubt that the rubber (Viton, neoprene, or whatever they're made of) ball has broken up. If it has come adrift it's most probably broken at the brass pivot, so the ball will still be within the three-port valve body. Booking a powerflush may be a false and expensive step, because whomever you book to powerflush will come prepared to powerflush and may not look for other causes. It's very easy for a competant DIYer to remove the actuator and inspect the 3-port body.....but it's your choice.
Appreciate the response and advise. Think the census of opinion from others is the same,no way it could enter the pipework.. Which must mean it was never there in the first place..odd.. But I'll accept that now following feedback.
When it was last replaced a few years ago there was no rubber ball on the valve. Disney [didn't...or Walt?] think anything of it at the time but over the years it's always been either working well or takes an age to warm up the radiators, often having to shut some radiators down... Which I thought means it's dislodging the boys [bits?] of rubber around the pipes. System has been flushed a number of times and had plenty of x800 and inhibitors to assure me that it's not general crud that's the problem....
