Hi

We Need a 'mushroom' cap attached to an existing exhaust pipe which leads down from the roof to our top floor flat (into the extractor fan in the kitchen)

We have the cap required,

Pipe is situated however on the roof of a 3 story building.

I know the actual job is only about 20 pound to do, but because its on the roof of a 3 story building, i'm being quote £500+ which seems a hell of a lot!

I really need some help here please and some advice.

Thanks

Mark Summerton

So maybe you'll have to turn a blind eye and employ a brave (or stupid) roofer to shimmy up a ladder. But that said TV aerial fitters seem to have little regard for getting up on the ridge to fit an aerial to a chimney, easily 3 storeys high.

I more than willing to turn a blind eye but it's finding someone ma....sorry experienced enough to do the job!

All i can think other than scaffolding is a cherry picker?

Only £20 to do?
A third of what a mechanic charges per hour and he has only the risk of slight spanner rash.
Show me a roofer who'll get on a roof for £20 and I'll show my arse in Debenhams window.

Sorry i meant the parts are only 20 quid.

I relize no one would do it for that!

I was kinda bugeting for £100-150 to be truthful

You got any steeplejacks in your local yellow pages? Scaffolding is not compulsory for a quick job like that but whoever is setting and going up the ladders needs to be on their game to avoid damaging themselves (or the roof).

Be worth getting a price for a cherrypicker for half a day as your worst case and go from there.

Steeplejacker! Great idea.

Yeah half day for cherry picker was around 250 mark ish (think wife said)

Will look into them now :)

I see you're in Manchester, whereabouts? if you have no luck I have a couple of contacts over there.

Thanks so much for all your advice/comments

I've had two offers from 75-100 quid, made up!

Happy Daze!

Anyone been outside today? Is it blowy? :?
