4 pole contactor for oven.

This is becoming amazingly complicated. Intellectually interesting, perhaps, but, IMO, a bit OTT for an oven switch!

Especially as there is no reg that says you must have an oven switch in the first place!
Quite so. I can understand some people wanting a nearby switch (particularly if there are children or confused elderly people etc. involved), but this discussion is going way beyond 'a switch'!

In comercial kitchens, often appliances including ovens go through similar or Merlin gerin CT contacters, these are wired to gridswitches as well as through the Emergency Stop systems.
Theres still usually local isolation too, by swith or plug/socket.
These contacters indeed run hot as said due to the coil rather than the load and over years can burn through the sides, hence the half or one module space suggested earlier.
For some things like external lights we use REVERSE CT contacters so the load is OFF when the contacters Live, thus limiting the contacter on time, in this case, local isolation would be recomended for an oven, as loss of power to the grid would liven up the oven.
However we still have merlin gerin contaters in use since 1980, though they do sometimes fail one pole open circuit and often after a fault one pole welds shut, theres also sometimes a humming noise problem.
