Can you tell me where I can purchase a 45a mcb (to suit a square d quickline consumer unit) for the above shower installation. My usual supplier says that they can only get them in either 40a or 50a, but the instructions specify that it should be 45a. The cable size being used is 10mm.

Thanks.

No 45A MCB in sight unfortunately - did you try searching ;)

Incidentally, the size of the MCB is determined according to the size of the cable/installation method etc...so that it is the cable that is protected from damage.

It is not decided by the power of the shower (although an MCB that is has too low a rating could trip too often).

If your shower is rated at 9.5kW @ 230V then it could draw a maximum current of around 41.3A.

Thanks for the quick response. As I said the cable being used is 10mm square T & E, it is being clipped in a cavity wall, then through a ceiling shower pull cord switch then on to the shower unit. The 45a RCBO looks favourable as this will give extra protection against earth leakage as well I think.
