what happens if you lock it from the other door?

This can happen if the mechanism in one of the doors needs lubricating - also check electrical connections and clean them - if one door will not lock properly the system "senses " its unlocked and unlocks all of them.

What happens if you simultaneously lock both doors together?
I have seen it where a wire between the lock actuators has broken so locking the drivers door didn't lock the passengers door, which subsequently re-opened the drivers door again (and vice versa).
In this particular instance (ford KA), the broken wire was in the plug where the door wiring loom connects to the socket on the car bodywork.

I tried disconnecting the door lock relay box but the fault did not change with either or both plugs disconnected.
I then removed the drivers door panel and unplugged the connector to the locking assembly.
Now I can lock each front door independently,so I am going to leave it like that for now.

Most likely I'm too late but I contacted fords when I had that problem and was told to remove the central locking fuse from the box under dash then as you are doing now lock independantly.
Point of posting if you haven't fixed it yet and haven't a manual phone you local library yes that's right, some stock for lenders workshop manuals if they have yours go read up on central locking faults.
I had the same prob on my Sierra and it was the lock rods out of line.
I couldn't get in mine unless I was very quick opening the door as it would re-lock at the blink of an eye. just to be sure I had the drivers window wound down in case it locked when fuse removed and never opened again.
