could anyone sort this problem out .the engine idles well ,it pulls well from low revs but when the engine gets to about 3500-4000 rpm(im guessing here no rev counter)the power just goes,it will continue to go higher up the rev range but with no power what so ever.to me it feels like it could be electrical ,the breather is clear and the filter is clean and every now and again the problem goes away and she pulls well all the way up . would well appreciate any comments cheers.

well dont know much about your car age or repair history.

common faults lack of power/over revving

worn engine

clutch slipping

exhaust management system

thanks for reply doyle, the car is a 96 mk4 fiesta, the engine is strong the clutch is new .its a strange one, under full accelerarion when it gets to said rpm it feels like someone has just yanked the handbrake up. what is it that manages the exhaust ?

Whip the spark plugs out and have a look at them.
Could also be the lambda sensor (sure the fiesta's had them)
