Hi,

I have a wall mounted fluro light with shaver socket in my bathroom. I want to disconnect it and make off the cable in a safe manner etc. What is the best way to make this cable safe and what if I wanted to plaster over the top. I aim to place a mirror on the wall where this currently is.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

there is no safe way to do this in a bathroom without using a blanking plate.
this then makes it so you cannot plaster over it..

you need to remove the cable / cables up or down into the roof / floor void where they can be crimped and left once the other end has been identified and disconected..

prefferably you should remove it/them back to the last point of connection and remove from there..

Hi ColJack,

I was intending to pull the wire out back into the roof void but there is not enough space to get in so I am left with the quandry!

If I use a blanking plate I assume I have to bolster out a back box and fit the flush blamking plate? I suppose I could recess this back so at least it is flush with the wall. The mirror would hide it!!!

You would think that someone would have come up with something by now for terminating wires in a chase and then being able to plaster over the top!!!

But the issue is that if you cover over a wire then there is nothing to denote that there is a live wire running vertically down the wall.
If you covered it over and in 10 years the next house owner could drill into the wall to put up a new bathroom cupboard and cop a packet.
It has happened and people have died as a result.

Very good point - I think I will chase a wall box in and put a blanking plate on - it's the only way I think.
