Have to agree with that. Solidly made and designed to last for decades, which much of it has. The sad thing is that some of that will be ripped out and discarded to be replaced with modern fittings which don't even come close to matching the build quality.
 
It's sad the amount of lead cable I come accross that when the sheath is removed the insulation is still in perfect condition all these years later.

Certainly lasts a lot better than VIR or rubber ever did.

Oh and it supplied an earth to every point on the system well before it was ever a requirement to do so.
 
Its not a very good conductor though. Should of started a new topic me thinks.... :|

Seen some of this stuff in a few old houses. Pity to rip it out as said.
 
Lead may not be the best conductor in terms of resistance per metre but the cross sectional area of the lead cable sheathing was large. It was also far more conductive than the alternative route through the soil.
 
Unfortunately lead sheathing wasn't talked about too much at college, I think I learn more from here then there.
